A cap expert gives a little analysis on our RBs among other things (via Person)

Those three contracts in a nutshell illustrate why you people calling for DGs job are at best misguided and at worst..complete morons.

Dave Gettlemen took this job and told JR that bc of Hurney it would probably take 4 years before the roster was assembled. Last year was purely an outlier BECAUSE Gettlemen is such a good talent evaluator. The offensive line couldn't have been any better this year because the guys he picked off the waiver wire last year turned into stars and he had to replace them (Ginn, Mitchell in particular). You also lose Gross who was one of the best Panthers of all time.

But good insight about the RBs...saving some DWill cap room will be nice.

And knowing all that he rented Hardy for 13 million on a rebuilding year?

Said it many times already.

DWill is gone as a June 1.

Stew is gone next off season as a June 1.

Agree with Williams.  I am not so sure about Stewart.  All things considered, he has played pretty well this year.  If he is willing to renegotiate and take a pay cut, he might be able to stay.  Otherwise, you are probably correct.

Not that I necessarily agreed with his decision to pay that much to Hardy, but I am fairly certain the point of that was to hang on to Hardy to buy us some time.  They wanted to negotiate a new long term contract with him but probably couldn't afford it.  They kept him around for another year, long enough to see how the other guys such as Ealy would work out.   Had the domestic violence thing not happened, the move would likely be viewed in a better light.

At least we aren't saddled with a long term contract for Hardy which allows us a certain amount of leeway.  Imagine if we had signed him for a long term contract for say 10 mil or so a year and then the domestic violence thing hit.? We would be in a quandary.  Now we have some options.   We either sign him for a long term (and perhaps reduced) contract, or cut him with little financial impact.   It wasn't a great move for the current season, but at least Gettleman did reduce the long term impact.  And that imo is the biggest improvement over the previous GM.

Gettleman in my opinion plays it smart and doesn't go into a panic mode when he negotiates a contract. I firmly believe he can get us out of our current cap hell and still put a competive team on the field.

Common sense tells me this will take time, but the fan in me wants immediate results.  Realizing this,I have to practice patience until it occurs, or i will become a flustrated and bitter fan.

I really can't wait for Williams to go.  He's a liability on the field and his antics about his mom (not speaking to the press even tho the team has done a lot for him IMHO) show what a little bitch he is.  I quit following him on twitter and fb.  It's too nauseating to read his self-promotion and all the soccer moms saying 'we love you D-Will keep pounding".  Yeah keep falling down when you're barely touched, keep fumbling the ball and not give a crap.

It would be better for the team if he just rode the bench for the rest of the season.

Bingo, any fan that has half a brain can figure this out.

What if we had given Hardy the CJ treatment, then the domestic incident, then JR not allowing him to stay on the team, and we had to eat that cap space for 3 more years after this one?

We dodged a bullet.

You can justify almost every move Gettleman has made in the name of getting the team financially healthy after the retarded contract extentions of Marty Hurney, but the problem I have is he paid Steve Smith to go play for another team.  Of all of his moves, that one made the least sense in that they really could have used Steve this year....

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
