Is Dave Gettelmen already the best GM in the south? ?

WOW!!

The Bucs just could never find their guy at QB. Other than that, they've been pretty solid in my opinion. Unfortunately, without a competent QB not much else really matters.

Falcons went all in on offensive skill positions. I think that says it all. Team built for the regular season, not for the hard hitting, harsh weather conditions of the playoffs.

Saints are still a good team. I think they screwed the pooch with Ryan. His defenses are usually only good for a season or two. I know one thing though, somebody better start grooming a replacement for Brees or they could be the Bucs in a couple of seasons.

Just realized the current Bucs GM was new in 2014, so I guess it's fair to say the jury is still out on him.

The prior GM screwed the pooch with the Schiano Sh*t Show.

Agree. I think Lovie is a good choice to hang your future on as a new GM - he was a safe bet. But they need to settle in on a QB. Honestly, I would have gone with Glennon over McCown, but I guess that's where Rivera inherited his penchant for "veterans" over youth. Fortunately, Rivera is learning that talent trumps experience - sometimes.

But many of us wanted to fire him bad.

Many!? Maybe the ignorant few who frequent the Huddle, but most know he has had to squeeze lemonade out of rocks. The only blemish on his record to me is 'the handling of the Smitty situation'.. the complete lack of addressing O-line in the draft or FA (or so we thought) has been smoothed over by Remmers, Trai and Norwell.

Just remember- Ignorance is always quick to speak. Loud and annoying too.

The only move of Gettleman's I am unhappy with was the treatment of Steve Smith.  I don't doubt the wisdom of letting him go, but the way in which it was handled was, imo, atrocious.  I realize football is a business and I am enormously happy with Gettleman's moves, overall, so this is not some "FIRE GETTELMAN" rant.  This is just me wishing that Smitty - who I think gave a lot to the team over the years, and was one of the greatest Panthers of all time - had been treated better on his way out.

I'm with you. Smitty could have left to chase a super bowl a long time ago. He didn't. He was loyal to an organization that gave him a real chance. In the end, he was his own undoing. Too stubborn for his own good. But still my second favorite player of all time - Barry Sanders being the first.

Some of his un drafted pick ups are better then other GM's in this division drafts...

Plus in the 2 years as GM he's won the division twice..

Which none of the others have done..

For this week, anyway. You forget this is a Panther message board and things change is mere hours around here.

Not long ago in a far-away time known as "November," he was the worst GM in the south and most everyone posting here singing his praises now wanted him run out of town on a rail.

And should the unthinkable happen Saturday evening and the Carolina Panthers lose again in their home stadium to the Arizona Cardinals, you will also be drawn and quartered alongside said GM as the Panther mood pendulum will swing the other direction and Panther fans will demand a house cleaning as the chorus rains down from the suburbs, "Fire everyone!"
