What to do about Charles?

I'm all for extending him, he's a dominant force at a crucial position.

A two year extention would keep him here til he's 32-33 so that would probably be best for the team.  Maybe with all of that Panther money in the bank he wouldn't be insistent on bending us over to keep him.

Extend the man.This D is one good DE on the other side of Charles from being top notch again. Stick Ealy in the gym for six months and don't let him out untill he puts on twenty pounds of muscle......Greg who?

Charles is a fantastic player and this past year he stepped up his leadership. He is essential to this team. Extend both him and Olsen before heading into free agency. No brainer move.

Charles has 32 sacks through the last 3 seasons.

 

He was dealing with an injury early on this past season, his play improved substantially once he had a chance to get healthy.

WTF?  I disagree.  When he's healthy, he's been one of the most consistent pass rushers.  Before he got leg whipped in the 2013 season, he was on pace for 15-16 sacks on the season IIRC.  This past season, he was battling a pulled hammy for the first several games.  After it healed, he was back to his normal, really good, production.

 

Some people may not like this, but CJ is much, much more consistent than Hardy.  Hardy got 15 sacks you say?  10 of them were in 3 games, against Byron Bell level tackles.  *runs for cover*

Smart call for both parties. Extend CJ 2-3 years and save some cap room while you are at it.

Obviously it makes more sense to keep Johnson over Hardy but at what cost?  Johnson is eating up a TON of cap space and a contract extension is a wise idea.  Would he be willing to just straight up take a pay cut?
