The New Orleans Saints announced the hiring of seven new assistants on Wednesday, completing a substantial makeover of head coach Sean Payton's staff.

The team confirmed the hiring of senior defensive assistant Dennis Allen and running backs coach Joel Thomas, whose hirings had previously been reported. The Saints also added receivers coach John Morton and assistant linebackers coach James Willis, offensive assistants Kyle DeVan and Greg Lewis and coaching assistant Brendan Nugent.

Maybe they think new coaches will fix their horrible salary cap problem?

Saints change staff = sinking ship

Panthers dont change staff = sinking ship

You have to love the contradictions here.

The Saints are a sinking ship because they hit the 'Drew Brees is old' and 'We mortgaged the future' icebergs.

Carolina is not a sinking ship, and people who say it is are being foolish.

Good hires, although, I was hoping to fire Greg McMahon, the special teams coordinator.

I wouldn't exactly call James Willis a "good hire".  He was OK at best while at Auburn and his subsequent college stops IMO.

And is it really a "good hire" considering the current anti-domestic abuse atmosphere in the NFL?

Former Auburn and Alabama assistant football coach James Willis has pleaded guilty to charges of assault and domestic violence and was sentenced to six months deferred probation, according to Lubbock, Texas television station Fox 34.

Congrats on the "good hire" though.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
