Should Carolina Draft Plan B?

Much is unknown about Cams contract as well as if he will have any lingering effects from his injuries he sustained over the past year.  Now don't get me wrong, I love me some Cam, but I think Carolina should have a Plan B on the roster.  Scrambling looking for one after the fact would be much worse.  Derek Anderson is a fine backup but he might be here for what another year or 2?  Carolina needs to groom another qb that knows the system.  Would do Cam some good to have a youngster pushing him.

So who do I think Plan B could be?  I say if Garrett Grayson is still there in the 3rd/4th round, Carolina should consider taking him as an insurance policy.

Cam Newton is only 25.

At one point last season we had one of the worst starting OL's the NFL has seen in years.

Unless the quarterback we draft is going to block for himself, and catch his own passes, it's a waste of resources right now.

We have many needs, QB should be at the absolute bottom of the list.

Cam is not a "running QB", he's a QB who can run when needed.

The threat is always there, but he can and will shred you through the air.

I think some people are taking for granted just how physically tough Newton is, and if you remove the threat of him using his legs to move the chains for a first down, the guy you put in there could very well end up getting laid the fug out standing in the pocket.

QB's built like Newton don't come around often. Anyone who believes we will just stumble our way into another one will be disappointed.

Perhaps in a few years we should begin considering grooming another QB, but right now we need to build around the one we have. No matter who is behind center, you cannot let him keep taking hits like Newton took at times this past year, protect your QB.

I don't understand the logic of drafting "Plan B" when you haven't even provided adequate weapons nor built adequate protection for "Plan A" yet.

    • yeah, Panther PR has done the Tepper is taking a backseat PR tour before.   It wasn't true at all the first time we saw them attempt that.   All the stuff you are referencing is stuff produced and put out by the Panthers.  I'm not acting like owners aren't in the war room.   I'm just saying Tepper is a proven commodity.  He is what he is.  And his tenure with BOTH his professional sports teams tell the exact same story about him.   He is not patient.  He didn't show patience last year.  He moved on from an absurd investment 2 games into the season.....and a frankly unimaginable turnaround by Bryce that was only allowed by injury reset some things.  I'm sure a billion times Raiders or Dallas or whatever fans convinced themselves their owners turned a new leaf too.  I'm not buying that.  There just isn't anything supporting Tepper isn't Tepper IMO.
    • Well last year the first team offense struggled against the Bills 3rd string defense. First string offense needed to convert a 4th down to score a TD.  If the starters play against backups and do what they are supposed to do, score easily, I’d say the reps are worth it. Would make me feel better. Unlike last preseason.
    • This right here. You also don’t want your 2 nd string oline going against their starting Dline and risk injury to whoever is taking snaps
