So be honest and completely objective.. Is there really a LT worth a true 1st round pick?!

If there is anything I am taking away from this draft overall by reading in between the lines and general consenus is this draft is actually stacked at WRs, among a couple other positions. Another recurring theme I seem to be seeing (and maybe its my imagination) is this entire OT class has a "meh" feeling to it.

Now grant it these guys turned out to be busts but when a OT comes out and is a really good prospect, you hear about it, a lot actually. Take Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher for example, they both went number 1 and number 2 and pre draft, the experts talked about them non stop.

And then Matt Kalil, i remember the hype around him being huge, some Panther fans even wanted us to break the bank and trade for him.

Yes all these guys are essentially busts, thats not really the point im making. What I am trying to say is I just cant get excited about any of these prospects and the closer the draft draws near the more I dont want a OT

It just seems a OT in the 2nd round wont be that big of a drop off from the 1st round. Im just not feeling this OT class at all. Yes LT is a GIGANTIC need at LT, but there doesnt seem to be that one prospect that screams pro bowl potential

IMO, no.  I think Jake Fisher is probably the best LT prospect in this draft, but he doesn't seem like a Gettleman OL.  Gettleman seems to like maulers and Fisher isn't a mauler. 

 

I think we're going to diligently scout OTs, but come draft day, I just don't think there's gonna be anyone there who we have a 1st round grade on and I'm just fine with that.  I'm not really in love with any OT in this draft.  The OT class is deep in mid-round talent, but I think it's pretty shallow at the top.  I don't think there's a huge drop off between guys projected in the first down to guys projected in the mid-rounds.

Yep. There's a few interesting mid-rounders like Rob Crisp, Tyrus Thompson, and Jamon Brown.

It takes time to become good at LT. In a few years some of these do called busts will bloom, watch.

You have to invest in the spot for the future, doesn't have to be our first round we just need to draft a guy who has the talent and can eventually develop.

A rookie coming in and being a good LT isn't the problem, it shouldn't be expected. The problem is this should have been done years ago and instead of having Bell take snaps and suck it should have been a young talent sucking but developing.

Look at these positions of strength:

DT (weakness until 1st round pick invested)

MLB (weakness (injury) until 1st R pick invested)

QB (weakness until 1st R pick invested)

RB (2 1st R picks on team for past 6+ yrs)

#1 WR (weakness until 1st R pick invested)

OLB (1st R pick invested)

TE (traded draft pick investment)

DE (projected starters 3rd and 2nd/4th R picks)

C (2nd R pick invested)

Now these positions of weakness:

OT (no draft picks invested)

WR 2-5 (no draft picks invested)

S (one 4th R draft pick invested)

KR/PR (revolving door of minimal investment)

So-so (for now):

CB (2 Mid-round investments)

OG (three 2nd-4th R draft picks on team)

Interesting how when we make a committed investment into a position, it seems to get better. Now think again about whether it's "worth it" to invest a first round pick at our weakest position.

      if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying

      So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
