2 year 2.3M contract, very little guaranteed.

year 1 900k

year 2 1.4M

prove it contract

either he becomes a huge asset on 4-phase ST and doesn't bring the game to a crashing halt in other phases or he's gone. low first year salary so there is no risk at all in carrying him through camp and preseason. if he earns next year's salary there will be no complaints about paying him.

remember at post-season presser both rivera and gettleman talked about possibility of full-time ST aces. here is a ST prospect with tools. there will be others, including some UDFA and guys who are brought in closer to camp. the best players will be rostered.

having a roided-out punter was a pretty nice luxury back then....hmmmmmmm

it also sucks having to have a specialized long snapper when every lifelong center long-snapped probably every year up til they made the league.

Every single team in the league has a specialized long snapper

Why? Serious question. It seems like such a bullshit position you could get someone else on the team to do and save a roster spot.

Practice reasons. Pulling a regular player away to long snap takes away from his game prep.

Injury reasons. Having a regular player do it means he can much more easily get injured doing other stuff and losing your long snapper means you are screwed.

Skill reasons. Apparently it's actually quite difficult to be really great that consistently at it so its specialized and requires constant practice.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
