Round 1 - Carolina Panthers Select Shaq Thompson

The Colts are going further than us and have a chance to top the Patriots because they have no defense and well we have no offense so no challenging Seattle's defense. If we were more balanced on offense we could beat them but we are not. I can understand a pass rusher but a LB with our pick is no doubt a head scratcher. There were still some good WRs left that teams after us jumped on quickly. Cam is not being surrounded by talent and that makes our offense play horribly.

Head scratcher? TD is 32, and this guy is 100% the same mold, but arguably more athletic. Probably the closest we'll see to his replacement for years.

That may be, but of all the young QB's that you believe are surrounded with offensive talent by their teams, how many have won the SB?

I'm not saying I don't want the team to stack talent around Cam, but who is winning championships with all this stacked talent?

This is just a fact that many just don't comprehend. Defense puts you in the position to win championships. Look at the last couple Super Bowl champs. Unless you have an ungodly talent at QB like Brady and Rodgers who can make any receiver and oline look good, you need the super strong defense to win it all (see ravens, Seahawks, and giants).

I'm all for getting Cam help but not if that means picking a tier two receiver just because that's what the masses want.

Unpopular opinon, BUT...

Look at the WRs for NE and SEA last year. KB/Olsen is already better than anything they have (IMO). Throw in a healthy Cam (and hopefully JStew), a slightly upgraded OL, and steps are being made. Enough? Not yet. But, we're building like these teams. Again, if we don't go WR in the first 3 rounds...I'll join the pitchfork crowd. But 30 minutes after a pick? Meh.

NE and SEA also have better coaches. Especially on offense. It's hard to say we have improved any...

We got young guys developing like Brown and Benji. We brought an over the top threat back in Ginn.

Draft isn't over either.

Our WRS will hopefully get better just because of experience. Ginn opens up a lot.

We should be fine.

Some of you really like to think DG is somehow trying to screw cam over? Really?.......Really?

George Bush flew the planes into the towers too right?

There are a ton of wrs, rbs, and ots left in this draft all who can come in and make an impact just like shaq will do....yall need to relax and cheer on your team, not bash every move from your couch.

Sorry, done now.

This is going to be a great pick. He may not be a total beast like Kuechly was his rookie season but I bet he makes some good plays for us. I don't see why people are hating on this pick we got a very intriguing defensive prospect to add to our already dominant defense you guys should be excited We have 8 more picks to get Cam some weapons.

Bookmarked this thread.  Excited to bump it in week 6!

Great Pick BTW

When that offense is struggling to move the ball like last year I will be bumping this as well so you can see what offense or lack thereof does to a team. I like his talent and do not doubt it but not a position we needed. Even the so called "experts" were like WTF?

The horrifying part is the window in which we had to address our current holes is quickly closing as other areas are going to quickly become significant areas of need

We are digging ourselves into a deeper and deeper hole with luxury picks like this

I have a good feeling that this is harpers replacement. Perfect size for a strong, good instincts, above average coverage for a lb which translates to a ss and has a high football IQ. I like the pick, could be the guy that takes our defense to an even higher level. Hopefully we can snag a wr for cam somewhere in our next 8 picks. Maybe hardy?

Luck won't be bringing them back down 21 forever bro. Eventually they gotta stop other teams from scoring.

Just stating my opinion... It's pointless to argue about it,but you know the continued neglect in addressing WR is a sore spot for me.

My issue is there is no sense of balance between offense and defense. We're collecting a surplus of defensive guys for no apparent reason, despite it being our biggest strength already... Especially the front seven.

We went into FA with WR being the biggest need, and here we are, in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft and nothing has changed except we have a surplus of talent at LB and DB, despite that being our biggest strength going into FA.

Oh well...

My fear too. I think TD may have just announced his replacement. I know there was talk about TD and the Panthers working on an extension a couple of weeks ago but then we heard nothing more. Might not be anymore to talk about after this pick.

Either way, LB was a need. Kuechly is still the only great long term player in that bunch. Just didn't think we'd address in the first.

PS: a lot of his highlights have him playing RB.

I doubt it but we will see no doubt he has talent but a faster WR who could stretch the field will fit better with getting past Seattle than another LB at our strongest position. Just agree to disagree and when the offense is struggling to move the ball against because no WR can break the coverage deep we will all be like WTF.

    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
    • my understanding is a big time throw, could be a 5-10 yard slant to Adam Thielen given AT isn't going to separate.
