Who will be our third receiver/man the slot?

Philly most likely, unless that UDFA we signed turns into a monster. Philly is already a better WR than Ginn was for us in 2013 (albeit not as much straight line speed) and is better than Cotchery. Bersin and Boykin are on the outside looking in. I truly believe Funchess, KB and Philly are locks, with the rest fighting for the last 2-3 spots.

They will give several looks imo. Funchess, Ginn, Brown, cotch or Benji could all play slot on the down and situation. If cotch makes the team it would be him or Funchess while Ginn is going deep.

Ideally When Funchess comes out they could change the formation if he improves as a blocker. Show a 3 wr set.. d sends nicklel pkg in and Funchess goes to a FB or flex TE role and they power run.

There really is no 2nd or 3rd WR.

It is all going to be offensive subpackages.

You will see Funchess in on short yardage and red zone. You will see Cotchery in on 3rd down. You will see Ginn, Hill and Philly in with a spread offense on 1st and 2nd down around mid field.

Spread offense inside the opponents 30 with KB and Stephen Hill wide; Greg Olsen and Brandon Williams stacked; Funchess in the slot. Sub Jonathan Stewart for Brandon Williams if you want a RB in the backfield with Cam. I would love to see that package. Run this package if it is 2nd and 2. Cam gets the easy 1st down if the defense spreads with a sneak, or if they man up and load the box, find the mismatch and let the ball fly. Motion Olsen to read the coverage pre snap. This will work all the time.

Ginn, he's played it here before. Routinely got pretty open and blew the top off deep sometimes but just struggled to hold onto the ball. Think Ricky will continue to improve his route running and catching Ike he did 2 years ago

Does Fumchess have the ability to line up as a TE? If so, that would be another way to force a defensive match up and allow another WR to get on the field. Don't know if he's ever done anything like that however.

yea our WR position in two offseasons went from fire sale to a DC's worst nightmare.

KB

Funchess

Olsen

Brown

Cotchery

Hill

Boykin

Byrd

Bersin

thats alot of height, versatility, and speed. this is going to be one of the best competitions in training camp later this summer. i am actually extremely excited to see our top 3 WR + Olsen on the field.

couple that with 3 other facts: 1) Cam is going to be healthy for the first time EVER, 2) we have legitimate talent on the offensive line now (not great, but adequate to give Cam 3 seconds at least), and 3) jonathan stewart will be a our feature back for the first time ever and we have a good committee behind him in case of injury.

our offense is going to contend next year. our defense will be a nightmare for opposing offenses, and our special teams will be much improved.

SO MANY REASONS TO BE EXCITED!!!
