2015 Carolina Panthers Roster Projection

Jeremy Igo

Recommended Posts

Fozzy and Todman may be fighting for the same spot. Seems to me they are similar. With Todman having more top end speed and can be a ST guy. Fozzy knows the team and has played 1 season.

This is what I think. Assuming CAP is a lock, one of Todman or Fozzy gets cut and how they perform on ST's in preseason will likely be the decider.

Now that rookie camp is over and all the tryout players have been signed, here is how I see the Panthers roster shaking out as of today.

This is by no means set in stone, but a good starting off point for OTA's and Preseason. From here, things can shift depending on individual performances.

Quarterbacks (3)

Cam Newton

Derek Anderson

Joe Webb

I don't see the Panthers letting Webb walk this season. He is just too versatile on the offense and special teams.

Running Backs (4)

Jonathan Stewart

Fozzy Whitaker

Cameron Artis-Payne

Jordan Todman

Todman and Whitaker provide punt and kick return options that this team desperately needs.

Fullbacks (1)

Mike Tolbert

Tight Ends (4)

Greg Olsen

Ed Dickson

Brandon Williams

Richie Brockel

Offensive Line (10)

Michael Oher

Andrew Norwell

Trai Turner

Ryan Kalil

Daryl Williams

Mike Remmers

Jonathan Martin

Nate Chandler

Brian Folkerts

Amini Silatolu

Nate Chandler may have actually improved his value last year, can now backup tackle and guard.

Wide Receivers (6)

Kelvin Benjamin

Devin Funchess

Jerricho Cotchery

Tedd Ginn

Corey Brown

Jarrett Boykin

That last slot is going to be one to watch in camp. Boykin, Bersin, Hill, M. Brown all competing for one position.

Defensive Line (8)

Charles Johnson

Kony Ealy

Star Lotulelei

KK Short

Dwan Edwards

Colin Cole

Frank Alexander

Mario Addison

Linebackers (5)

Thomas Davis

Luke Kuechly

Adarius Glanton

Shaq Thompson

David Mayo

Safeties (4)

Roman Harper

Tre Boston

Colin Jones

Robert Lester

Jones will be an important piece here, as Shaq Thompson may not be ready for his large nickel role by September. Jones played it pretty well last season, and should only improve with more experience in camp and preseason.

Cornerbacks (5)

Josh Norman

Bene Benwikere

Teddy Williams

Carrington Byndom

Melvin White

I really like the Peters kid out of Clemson, could push Melvin White.

Special Teams (3)

JJ Jansen

Graham Gano

Brad Nortman

This roster was formulated with the assumption that Dave Gettleman keeps all of his draft picks on the regular roster, which he has done historically. That could change this season as the overall talent on the team increases. For instance, AJ Klein was a tough call here, but if we assume Mayo is kept he is the odd man out.

There are young guys coming in like Byrd, Peters, Wegher, Ward that have a chance to shake things n on this roster. For instance, if Lee Ward can come in and be a blocking machinie in the run game and also contribute on special teams, Richie Brockel may be in trouble. If they do not break into the regular roster, the Panthers will have an even more talented practice squad this season.

I also agree, peanut will be on the final roster. That said, Is there any doubt why we traded away draft picks, we don't have enough roster room to keep the talent we have. I think Boykin and trusnik could miss the final cuts though, we'll have to see. With as much competition as we have, this preseason will be really fun.

I saw this late and I didn't feel like reading multiple pages:

So are you thinking/saying that Tillman won't be on the final 53?  If the Clemson kid can push Melvin could TIllman push Byndom?

Edited for my list. Actually ended up with a 25-25 split for offense and defense. I then added a few guys in parenthesis who I think could knock off the person next to them.

Here's mine. I feel like Klein or Glanton, Love, Harper, and Webb can all be expendable if someone else steps up.

I still don't see Cotchery lining up in the slot or as a #4 when we already have younger receivers that can fill these spots easily. Bersin doesn't play ST, is a terrible PR, and cant get seperation due to being slow. I don't see how he has a chance.

I don't see Trusnik getting cut. He is a reliable vet backup to Kuechly and is solid on special teams. I also don't see Tillman or Coleman getting cut. Tillman adds more versatility to the backfield. If any of the safeties are getting cut, Harper should be the one out. If they have to decide between Harper and Coleman, they'll most likely choose the younger version. Colin Jones also gives us the option to not have to carry 5 CBs.

I don't get what all the hate on Bersin as a receiver is about. Yes he sucks at returning but he made some clutch plays for us at receiver when he was put in last season.

I have done this kind of thing for several years.  The bottom of the roster is getting very talented -- I disagree with a few of these, but the odds of getting it right are not good.  Injuries, etc.  I think we go with 9 OL and 6 or 7 LBs, for example.  Trusnik should make it--valuable ST captain in Miami.  Blechen is my dark horse candidate to make the team as depth at OLB.  I am not as sold on Glanton and Klein as others.

    • I made it about 5 minutes, dude seems pretty insufferable.  But if you watch him through, even with a clean pocket his mechanics and footwork seem different on almost every throw.  Some he has a wide footbase and doesnt plant his foot, others he does the hop throw.  That has to get cleaned up for any consistency
