Brady vs the NFL: The Case that Might Knock the Football from Being the Number One Sport?

No chance, stuff like Deflategate is pushing football to the front and backpages of every newspaper and sports site in the middle of NBA playoffs and we are 5 months from the first football of 2015 being played.

The league is 24/7, 360 days a year. There's always another story in the back pocket to remind people that football is #1.

This won't have any effect whatsoever on the popularity of the league as a whole. Will almost certainly lose some Patriots "fans" but that won't have an effect on the league as a whole.

I doubt this knocks the NFL from its pedestal.

I will say that if there was ever something that could knock Goodell out of the commissioners office, it's pissing off one of his most lucrative bosses in Robert Kraft.

It would almost be worth the Super Bowl we lost to the Patriots if it meant it was even a minor step toward Goodell being relieved of his duties.

Once the games start, the entire nation will be in a football frenzy, just like it is every year,

These things offer topics for offseason discussion and add to rge drama once the season starts, but let's be real. It'd take something way bigger than this to knock football out of the top spot in the American consciousness.

The biggest consequence you might see out of something like this is a reorganization of leadership, and if Goodell can survive the Ray Rice thing, I'm not so sure I'd even bet on that.

So what if Kraft hates him when 31 other owners despise Belichick, and Kraft by extension?

Get guys like Mara and Rooney against you and you've got serious trouble.  Kraft?  Not so much.

No, the other sports are just too damn boring on TV....or too regional and not shown nationally....or have too many damn games in a season...or different rules for different leagues....yea the other sports have more than 1 mountain to climb to take over the NFL.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
