If Cam has an MVP type season, what will be the reason?

Recommended Posts

It will mean:

He will be #27 on the top 100.  They will start the clip by saying. ... he is alright but he isn't Andrew Luck.

Someone will make a top 10 QB list and leave him off just to drive website hits.

The people who hate him will hate him more.

There will be endless articles about his TD and first down celebrations.

Some report questioning his commitment will come out of the blue.

Someone will say he has better pocket awareness and clearly ignore that it's probably the most stable pocket he has seen since his rookie year.

Aaron Rodgers, Luck, Either of the Mannings, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Flacco, Roethlisburger, Kaep, Wilson, RG3, etc.. would have to have had a horrible year for Cam to win it over them.

Well, I think he played pretty well for an injured player. I also believe he has had MVP caliber seasons (just without wins) even though he hasn't had a great supporting cast. I think a competent o-line will help as well as weapons, but I think the only way he gets MVP recognition is if the team produces wins. He could have the same stat line with a 7-8-1 team as he does with a 13-3 team but he wouldn't receive recognition with the 7-8-1 team because the wins wouldn't be there. No matter how valuable he is (and has been) to the team, he won't win MVP until the team wins. For an individual award it requires team success......that's just how it is. So, none of the above.

My answer: Wins

There won't be any one REASON. Everything you said would factor in. Plus his development will continue like it has every year. I think, despite the bad stats and what looked like bad play on the surface, he improved a lot last year and it was a big learning year for him. He was in the MVP discussion early last year before the line went haywire, even with the busted ankle and ribs and poor overall "weapons." I really hope this is THE YEAR for Cam, and I don't see any reason why it won't be. He has the ability physically and mentally to be an MVP-caliber player, and I do think it'll show this year. Only possible hinderance is Shula, but I'm willing to give him a chance now that we have better personnel to run his offense. It seemed to work well down the stretch last year, when our interior was shored up, Philly was inserted and Stew was healthy. That was evidenced by our game against Seattle where our offense was actually carrying the team. If the defense played like it should have (or we had Hardy and Star...) we scored more than enough points to win that game.

    • I hate to burst anyones bubble but this guy played 188 total defensive snaps in three years but 802 special teams snaps. If we do kick the tires, it's probably gonna be for that latter part.
    • I do believe that Evero gets canned before the end of the season and Capers takes over the D. I think the stage is set for Evero to fall on the sword for a 4-7 win season.  Not saying it would be a set up but I do think if that transpires, the seat under DC might start getting pretty warm, rightly or wrongly. That's my read on Tepper. I am not at all excited nor am I dreading anything. I just have extremely low expectations so I am just waiting to see what this revision of the roster looks like.  I FEEL like we are better on paper than last season's team but I wouldn't be remotely shocked if we were as bad or worse. Again, I do think this is the 2nd worst roster in franchise history overall. What will really make me happy is for some of the big questions to finally be answered(Bryce, Ikey, Horn, etc). I would like to see a real expansion of our core player pool(basically just D. Brown currently). I want to see a couple of hits in free agency and a couple in the draft. If we accomplish those things, I have faith that we are at least moving in the right direction after many, many years doing the opposite.
