The battle for the #3 wr

Its very early for predictions  as were only going into our first practice with pads today but this battle for #3 is among the best competition we have seen in years for the wr spot.

Im already stating kelvin and funchess will be the#1 and #2.   The #2 isnt being handed to devin but I cant see us starting anyone else over him  , he has way too much upside .

With all that being said the battle comes down to cotchery, philly and ginn as the most popular candidates for the job even though bersin or boykin can make it they are still long shots.

its a hard one to pick but im going to go with ginn . We missed a player with his speed last year a player thats able to stretch the field.

Ginn was one of cams fav targets  in 2013 and I think he can  return to his form this season.

what does everyone else think?

I agree with L-towncat.  The possibilities are endless with these guys.

I could see situations where putting Funchess, Brown and Ginn on the field at the Same time would really screw up a DC.  That would almost be a burner package.  Funchess is faster than KB.  Brown and Ginn will stretch the field very much.  And Brown is getting better day by day in his route running.

What would you do if you saw 6'5" 6'5" and 6'4" lined up with 6'5" TE.  Monster package with KB, Funchess, Bersin and Olsen.

Endless mismatch possibilities.

Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, Shula has his eyes open for these possibilities.

I think the real battle is for #5.  As far as I'm concerned 1-4 should be pretty set at KB, Funchess, Brown, Ginn in that order.  #5 is being fought over by Cotchery, Bersin and Byrd.  I'm sure Cotchery is getting his veteran priority consideration, but he should be no higher than #5 in my opinion.

It's just too early for predictions. Right now is the time to be quiet and observe. Counting anyone out (or in) right now is simply a matter of playing on mental monkey bars. We have to keep an eye on camp, the games, and we will get our ultimate answers with the cuts. I am just so pleased we have a solid level of competition.

I think Ginn will play the most out of those guys but I also think it depends on where Funchess lines up for the play since he'll be moving around a lot. I just don't see kelvin funchess and Cotch all being in the game at the same time much though so I think Philly and Ginn will get a lot of playing time

I think Brown may be turning into a route running expert (yay #madden) and THAT likely will lend him some additional snaps over Teddy.

I think we see Ginn running more go routes and come backs while sending the little guy (Brown) underneath with the crazy poo he does to get open. Add either combination of 1a (KB) and / or 1b (DF) and an Olsen.

But that's just like my opinion, man.

I just don't logically see a need for Cotch or any of the other cats below wr4 on the depth chart. They need to be there for the depth but you can count on one hand the number of 4 wr sets that we run during a game.

Maybe we'll run more 4wr no huddle plays this year resulting in more rotation with the backups? That would be the only way I see them keeping more than 5wr's on the dc.

I disagree about Cotchery.  Him being 5th on the depth chart could be wise.  Being a team's 3rd-5th option has been his ideal role over the years.  Not what we had him in last year.  If someone goes down, you know what you're getting from him and he can be an adequate replacement.

    • Not many people talking about DT, but we have a need.  (DE)  Now this guy is a NT like Brown III
    • But is it about letting Bryce develop or about winning games? Bryce has not been good enough to be an uncontested starter. He just hasn't. How many times has last drive Bryce shown up for 4 entire quarters? Once in 3 seasons? You aren't going to win 9 or 10 one score games every season year in and year out. You may want Bryce in the last 2 minutes. I want that Bryce the full 60.  No one is saying you have to give up on him, but bringing in another QB that can do anything is not hindering Bryce. It helps the team and that's where the focus needs to be. If drafting Sadiq to plague the middle of the field would help out offense, but Bryce struggles to get pass into the middle of the field, is Sadiq a bad pick? Or could he be a good pick with a better option at QB? We can't be afraid to improve. QB, TE, OL, LB, DL, CB, S. It doesn't matter. The goal is SBs, not 5 to 8 years seeing waiting to see if Bryce can develop while the rest of the league keeps passing us by.  Sadiq is a nice option, but I think we have to address tackle if one we like is there because we are painfully thin after this year, a LB to general the field, and a true ball hawking safety that can set the tone in the secondary. Those 3 positions are bigger game changers than a TE that will likely struggle to make a round 1 impact in this offense.
    • Lil Stanky 100% in the dot tonight... And our 2nd line has been our best offensive line this season. Maybe our 2C really was on the roster this whole time...?
