J.Jones: Four players are on the roster bubble, need to play well

Corey sounded confident in the locker room after the game that his position was safe. I think he is on the bubble as far as being bumped down to third string,  but I can't see them cutting him.

He may be in more danger than he thinks. With the new rules, they could also demote him to the practice squad to see if he can be salvaged.

Hmm. Perhaps Mucas has the edge on Swole Bones.

Not hard to have an edge on someone who's been hurt.

In regards to the receivers, I'll stick my neck out and say Funchess, Cotchery, and Ginn are locks....then Norwood if he shows up well....that leaves Bersin, C. Brown, Byrd, and M. Brown. If they pick up another reciever after cuts, that'll bump one of those last four. If they roll with 5 receivers, then all of those last four are gone. If they go with 6, then we keep one.

Fun times.

Um....I just realized Brandon Williams is on the bubble? I mean he was injured but one game to show something? Damn man. It is what it is I suppose.

For guys who teams have little invested in(guys like Brown and Williams), it shouldn't be about potential you've shown in the past, it should be what you've shown NOW.  What have you done NOW?  Nothing?  Well, bye.  Guys go undrafted for a reason.  It's because no team deemed them worthy of a draft pick.  If they work out (Norwell), then it's a very welcome surprise.  The vast majority don't and just because you filled in for a few games last season and did alright doesn't mean you're a lock for the next decade.

At this point...what is the difference between Philly Brown of last year and Byrd of this year?  They took a flier on Philly, a small, fast, UDFA, last year.  Why not cut Brown and do the same thing this year, especially if Philly continues to drop balls?  Take a flier on Byrd and roll with the rookie and see what he can do.  I like Philly but he isn't irreplaceable.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
