While I'm Happy, I'm Still Concerned*

So through four games Ted Ginn has 12 receptions, 206 yards, and 3 TD’s , avg 17.2 ypc (trails Olsen by 5 receptions, and 37 yards). And is technically behind Cam the most productive offensive player on offense as none of our running backs have a TD in 4 games (a stat that surprised me) as Cam has the only two rushing touchdowns, but has thrown seven so far.

Meanwhile none of our runners is over 4 ypc, aside from Tolbert (4.7) but he’s no threat to consistently break any real big gains. As we begin to face better quality offenses and defenses respectively per match-up this in my fan and unaccredited opinion, this is not  a trend we can continue and expect to win consistently this year.

As we prepare to face Seattle, Philadelphia, Indy, and Green Bay I see us splitting 2-2, I’m not sure where the wins and losses will kick in but it’s a little worrisome looking at our inability to run as well as we did to close out last season. I’d personally would like to see more CAP, and Wegher, as they seem to have a little more acceleration on the edge runs vs Stewart but they don’t tip our hand when on the field the way Fozzy may.

So am I being too worried, or has this team shown us enough to realistically expect a split over the next four games, the optimism in me says we can go 3-1 losing to Green Bay, but the realist in me expects one more loss over the next four games.

This offensive line is still learning how to gel. It's getting better over time and Cam keeps looking more and more comfortable. I don't see why everyone thinks we're going to get blown up by the Packers. I think it is a very winnable game in lieu of our defense. After watching the relationship that the Packers had with the niners, I'm not super concerned. J-No is going to do fine against Cobb (who apparently has a roughed up shoulder.) No doubt about it, we have an opportunity to compete in every game and this team has had a winning trend. Re-introducing a healthier TD, a healthier Stewart, Kuechly, Johnson, Allen, and maybe even some steady improvement from Funchess could propel this team to victory. Losing at Seattle isn't bad though. It would be a good reality check for this team. Green Bay imo is a must-win game if we're going to prove we can win a championship to our fanbase and give the team enough confidence throughout the playoffs. And fug the Falcons they're getting smashed come December.

There are concerns for every team. I think you've pointed out some good ones for the Panthers. However, I don't think there is a team on paper that we can't be with and fight with. Now when games play out who knows (re Vikings and Eagles last year). But I see every game as winnable. There are things that need to addressed. But I see us going in to every game with an attitude to win. The players believe it...why shouldn't I?

We are going to thrash Seattle.  They look awful.  It took a blown call for them to beat an 0-3 team.  Wilson can only get so lucky before his luck runs out.  They have some good players on defense just like we do, but even without Benjamin our offense is better, especially our line (who thought I'd ever be saying that).  We're going to blow them out, I'm convinced.

The only team that scares me is Green Bay.  Aaron Rodgers is a madman carving up every defense he faces.  He will be smart and make quick work of whoever is playing across from Josh Norman.

Im concerned as well, we gave up almost 300 yards passing to a rookie qb who has struggled all year, we gave up over 100 yards rushing to an offense who's line has stunk it up. Without those interceptions it's a different ball game.

if we can get Luke and Johnson back on defense and somehow figure out how to run the ball without Cam doing most of the work then we have a chance in all four games... I'll be happy if we go 2-2

We're a better team than the Lions right now and they gave Seattle all they could handle with some help from the refs...

Seattle is no slouch but we can play with them, and barring any dumb coaching decisions, we can legit win that game.

Seattle does not look good, their O line is sketchy and their D doesn't look like it has in years past... of course they didn't have Lynch last night and he could make a difference, but we can beat them.

Green Bay is going to put up points on us unless we figure out how to pressure Rodgers, he's just too good to let him stand there and throw it.

Who knows with the Eagles and Indy... we don't do well in prime time and we have a tendency to play down to poor teams...

Marshawn is their O so don't take that game like that's who they are. They have to get healthy too.

kam really is a beast tho. Holds out, no practice no games and second game back goes beast mode. He scares me. Look what he did to megatron and our receivers aren't exactly physical.

Winston's stats don't bother me. He struggled all game, had 5 turnovers by himself, and they played from behind so they had to pass more. He had to throw the ball 40+ times to get close to 300. He had 4 picks in there as well. Minus his garbage time drive with our backups on the field, he had closer to 200 yards, 1 TD and 4 picks. We owned him.

The rushing yards were somewhat concerning but understandable considering we were playing 2 new guys extensively on the DL who might not be familiar with gap responsibilities yet (Delaire specifically, he got an earful from Edwards after the one rushing TD. He might have been out of place). Couple that fact with we didn't have Luke, a guy that can single handed stop a rushing attack, and I'm not that concerned after all.

The running game does concern me. It'd be nice to have an established runner take heat off Cam. But we can only hope the O-Line jells and things go smoother the last 3/4 of the season in that regard.

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
