Remember Walls well. His was the first Jersey I ever bought for my son. Since the story of Olsen's career isn't finished,I'll reserve judgment.

Walls was a poor mans Olsen. I was a huge Walls homer but Olsen is tops in football smarts.

Olsen.  He is faster, a better blocker, and he doesn't fall down when he catches the ball like Walls did.  I loved Wall, mind you--have an 85 jersey, but 88 is better.  No discussion necessary.

When I was a young pup my high school sweetheart worked at a mini golf place and got mad free tokens with her paycheck to play in the arcade. Of course she gave them to me and I dominated NFL Blitz for two summers. I had the entire top ten scores locked up and destroyed people with the likes of Tim Biakabatuka, Wesley Walls and Patrick Jeffers. 

Like a boss. 

Bet it was traumatic when she dumped you.  As much as we hate to say it, Huddlers get dumped quite often.  The only Huddlers who haven't been dumped have never been in the situation where that was a possibility.

Nice different topic. I got to say Olsen all the way. Walls could catch everything and was amazing in the redzone. BUT...

Greg Olsen is faster, has great hands as well and can block. Walls wasn't as much of a blocker. 

I do prefer Walls TD celebration of spiking the ball and then shooting it duck hunt style!

Olsen has had to carry a lot more on his broad shoulders than Walls,  and he has done it masterfully.  When thinking about their respective value to the piece of the puzzle,  Olsen has to be the best TE in Panthers history.

These types of questions aren't really fair.  At least to me.  I can barely remember last week's game let alone games that occurred in the 90's.  All I remember was that Walls was great.  I don't remember specific plays that make me think that...or games for that matter.  I would have to sit down and watch all of Walls' games all over again and then watch Olsen's games all over again to make a fair judgement.

Walls does have some sentimental value and as mentioned above his TD celebration was always fun to watch. I'm 31 and didn't watch football religiously until the panthers came along. So hard for me to accurately gauge the better player but Olsen is probably more talented over all.

Good thread. I was too young then, I was only in 6th grade when we went to the Super Bowl .. I'd say Olsen but would have loved to have remembered some Walls

Collectively there is some bad memory going on here.

At first I leaned Walls, then a tie, but now Olsen. Olsen is pretty much all around a perfect team member.

Most of the posters here are probably too young to remember Wesley Walls and what he meant to the franchise in the 90s, but the guy could block, run, and catch.  He was pretty much our first homegrown star, even if he was drafted by another team.  The guy could do it all, and established records that stood until Olsen came along in a much friendlier passing era.

If you were building a team from scratch and got to choose between all Panthers players to date in their prime, which player would you start at Tight End?  And why?

depends on the era.  Today give me Greg as he is a better receiver.  I think Walls was better doing the dirty work stuff which was more important back when he played.
