Ryan Kalil: Cam takes the most cheap shots in the League

And the refs allow it to happen.

"The only time I've ever seen Cam engage is when guys hit him late," center Ryan Kalil told NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks on the Move the Sticks podcast. "It really, really pisses me off. It's the only time I've probably ever yelled at refs about protecting him. A lot of times when he's down on the ground guys will start grabbing him. I've seen it a bunch, I mean it's crazy.

"I've never seen defensive players do this more to any other player I've been around who carries the ball more than Cam. Guys will grab his foot and try to twist his ankles or guys will try to pretend like they're trying to get up and lean on him and push on him and hit his knees and legs. It's funny, man. I go off. I get upset at referees. But that's the only time I've ever see Cam really go off on a guy and yelling at him. So if you ever see Cam in a game yelling at a guy, it's probably because (a defender) was doing something cheap."

"I also think it (Cam's size) works against him, too," Kalil continued. "I think a lot of times refs let guys play and get away with that stuff because he's so big and he's such a physical specimen. I think it works against him a lot of times in that regard because he can take a hit and he can get back up. Where as maybe not such a big quarterback you protect him a little bit cause a hit might end his day."

Amen, Ryan... a-fuggin-men.

Happens ALL THE TIME and the League *allows* it to happen ALL THE TIME.  Like Kalil said, if Cam wasn't as big and strong as he is (and young?), the Shield would make sure to place themselves between him and harm.

Just read that too. Pisses me off. Kalil isn't some loud mouth that just says poo to get attention, this is a legit issue that will get no attention and have no repercussions unless Cam gets seriously hurt by some act that is so completely blatant that it can't be swept under the rug. I just hope that he (and we) continue to be fortunate enough and he can continue to be too much of a man for the bullshit cheap shots to hurt him.

Ryan is completely right. I appreciate him saying what needed to be said.

This is one thing that I think people have begun to kind of take for granted, whether intentional or not. Cam Newton is one of the toughest players period that I have ever seen play the game.

Going to sound like a homer, but if you watch the games with an eye for this type of stuff it's easy to see. Especially the "leaning on him" or using his legs to get up. If I can see it 6 beers deep from the couch or stands, then the stripes should be able to see it standing 5 yards away.

Agree with Kalil whole heartedly...we've seen it every year and it needs to be repeated until they actually keep throwing flags non stop until that BS stops...

They owe Cam at least 6 flags from this year alone that I can remember off the top of my head....much less what we don't see...refs need to step their game up and if putting more heat on them nets us a few more penalty yards then...:) good

I always think of the Giants play where Cam got hit both late AND below the knee while in the pocket right in front of the ref who totally ignored.it.  If they aren't calling that poo they sure aren't going to call all the stuff that Kalil was mentioning.  Seems like the league wants it's MVP put out of commission for some reason.
