Here's how the numbers shake out for the Panthers:

2016 salary cap ($155.27 million) + Carolina's 2015 carryover ($3.73 million) - Carolina's top 51 2016 contracts ($129.45 million, according to Spotrac) = $29.55 million in cap space

Cornerback Josh Norman's expected franchise tag of about $13.8 million will eat nearly half that, leaving the Panthers around $15.75 million to work with when the new league year begins on Mar. 9.

We've just gotta get a long-term deal with josh to make keeping this core of guys on the field for the next 5-years.

Gotta get deals with at least 1 of our DTs locked-up and some of our OL are gonna get contracts too.

Just looks like the same-old, same-old (building through the draft and signing upgradeable positions with vets looking for that elusive SB ring.)

Josh is not going to be tagged.  Ltd will get done.

In the next 3 days? Because Tuesday is the deadline to use the tag and they are reportedly pretty far apart. It's possible but I wouldn't bet on it. If there's no deal y Tuesday then he's definitely getting tagged. Can't risk losing him for nothing in FA.

They can tag him and still work on a new deal all the way up to July 15. So hopefully they get something done

Feels like it's worth mentioning, but everyone remember that Gettleman is probably taking 5-7 million in cap space into the season. Whether it be for late/injury related signings or rollover, it's not likely we use all of our space.

Plus money to sign rookies,  plus an extension for KK.

    • The Bucs waived shilo sanders after he got ejected.
    • I'm just tired of ppl saying he's so accurate and then have to see recievers slow down to recieve the ball, ruining any chance at YAC
    • Some people will really look at stuff like this and say "no more excuses" but then make excuses to try and explain away the validity of big-time throws. 🙃   Back on topic though, as I mentioned in the other AT thread earlier, I hope that the team is still exploring the deal. If the Vikings want the Panthers to take on some of the salary, then it had better be at worst a 4th-round pick (though I imagine Dan angling for a 3rd). If they're willing to take on all of it, then maybe at worst a 5th. Tough pill to swallow, giving up a 4th for a 35yr old WR, but if MIN believes they can have similar success behind McCarthy then it could be a smart deal for them. Hell, if AT has any gas in the tank and gives them a 1yr sweetheart deal to close out at home, even better for Minnesota. Yea, Bryce loses his best and most reliable WR. Hunter Renfrow though isn't what I would call a huge step down though (if he's as advertised throughout camp), and it gives more reps to TMac + XL + Coker. This season is all about continued development and answering some of the looming questions (Is Bryce the guy? Is Evero the DC going fwd? How do the young WRs develop? How long does it take this defense to bounce back from being historically awful?).
