So, with Jared's retirement, CJ's release, and Frank's suspension through late Nov 2016, here's who we have as DEs as of right now, including PS & Futures Contracts guys:

I'm actually very excited to see how far Cox has progressed. Not sure why, but from the little I got to see of him, he produced pretty well, and I have a hunch. IIRC, he also has the measurables to go with some very coachable talent.

He's one year removed from being an all-pro basically, just didn't fit in that system.   Peppers is 36 and had 10.5 sacks last year.  You can't always go by that.  Obviously we won't give a monster contract but he may want on a winning team, etc.

Yea, the contract part is what scares me.  I don't want to let someone like CJ go just to bring in Mario who's demanding a big contract as well.  I know Gettleman won't let that happen, but I feel as if a lot of people on here want it to happen (big contract or not).  If Mario will take a small contract, I'm all for it.

Before everyone goes off on the "Grab JPP or SuperMario" tangent, remember why Johnson was cut: Late career player whose performance and injuries made him unable to match up with the pay he would have received. Mario and JPP are the exact same guys in the exact same situation. Those star names come with big price tags and only a very small chance for a return on the investment.

Chances are Gettleman will draft a DE and proclaim that the Answer Is On The Roster again... and be right again. The money is better spent on a couple of mid-price FAs and the rest used to shore up other portions of the roster.

He pretty much said it at the combine.  He mentioned Cox and Miley specifically.

I would agree to a point but this is the best crop of interior DL we have seen in a while.

i think we could let Star walk at the end of his contract if Getts has a DT targeted at our draft position.

Star isn't one of those glamour guys but what he does is underated. He's one of the best NTs in a 4-3 scheme in the leauge. He eats up double teams and helps the rest of the D-line. Just look at what the Falcons o-line just said about him.

Some guys you can easily replace and keep moving forward. We'll definitely try to resign both.

CJ's money is going toward extending our own guys.  Only way we see a Mario/JPP signing is if, like you said, they're on the cheap(which I highly doubt, but could happen).  We're most likely going to see the Coples-like signings, unless there's a steal out there.

Here's that table with the DEs again, including Height, Weight, college, games in 2015....

This ain't your daddy's Carolina Panthers...

wonder which big name vet will get the axe next year? Kalil?

Kalil is a FA after this year and I think we give him a 2 year extension anyway. Smart money is on Stew getting released.

Was going to happen if he didn't take an outright pay cut.....not many players take an outright pay cut.

I fully expect to hear of a DE signing that none of us really know all that much about, and us drafting one high.

We could really keep either Norman or Big Money this year, the smart money was on Norman.

    • Another Guard?? Small ball was just a meme right?????   Again can anyone confirm Kon had more than 2 dunks for the season?? I watched more highlights and saw lots of layups. Did see one thunder dunk tho...   Jeff just needs to finish this off-season with a guard package trade for a PF/C. Call Portland, that's a start!
    • XL treatment is in the top 5 What The Fuccks for the the huddle. It just happens that the 32nd team and 33rd team GMs knew each other very well. Panthers viewed the 5th year option as being worth a late 6th and a trade was made to make XL a 1st rounder.  He had injuries in OTAs, mini camp and TC. Like others had more injuries in season and just kept playing. Half the season was bad BY and dalton. He still had 500 yds, 5 TDs, and like 45 recs.  Just super weird the treatment. BTW people love to focus on the bad plays, but there was only one WR that caught a TD on the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, can you guess who that was?? By many accounts the Pats wanted XL badly and had to select Polk instead, there's strong rumors that Polk is either going to be cut or traded for a 2078 7th rounder. Panthers could have easily been in this situation if not for the Bills allowing the trade up. It pays to have friends.... I feel XL will force some fans to plates of raccoon as he develops. (please stay healthy)
