Has there been a bigger Carolina miss in the NFL draft?

Everette Brown > Michael Johnson, Paul Kruger

Armanti Edwards > Geno Atkins (wanted him bad)

Worse, these are picks that never should have happened because the idiot Hurney traded away premium future draft picks so he could select these bums. Missed draft pick and fugged our future.

I feel like Jarrett kinda gets the shaft in this conversation. He was failed as much by the team as he failed himself. He had Keyshawn ecstatic to mentor him, only to be cut 3 days after the draft. This left him with just Steve Smith as a mentor, under whom we never developed a single quality rookie WR and who (though I don't have any inside info into it) was notorious for doing everything he could to wreck any young WR we acquired. On top of that, Jarrett was on the team through Delhomme's meltdown and then a revolving door of terrible QBs until he was cut for DUIs. Despite all of that, Jarrett managed to catch just about all of the few passes thrown to him and scored a pretty sweet TD on the Saints.

I feel like if Jarrett was drafted in 2014 instead of 2007, and joined this team with this QB and this leadership, he could have developed into a pretty damn good WR instead of a burnout drunk.

Jeezus, Smitty didn't fail. Our coaching staff did if anyone. And all those outstanding QBs Hurney brought to town.

How about all the QBs the Panthers could have drafted and didn't,  believing Delhomme was the guy and that arm was fine . With Fox probably just as well...if you go back and look,it will make you cry

Years of suckage brought us Cam and this regime

wouldnt trade that have had a little bit more success in the past

Than picking Amini Silatolu instead of Cordy Glenn?

Discuss.  :)

Guys are mentioning other players but to bypass a top LT in Glenn, who played in the SEC for some project dude like Amini playing on what looked like a rec league from his highlights mauling 210 lb DEs was a headshaker in real time..

The Armanti trade up was facepalm awful and embarassing as well as in a real time, screaming at the TV moment.

Amini was garbage when he was healthy too.

Garbage is unfair.  We knew he was a bit of a project anyways, I'll admit I loved the pick initially.  Spoke volumes to me that the Patriots were apparently in love with him.

What's unfair was how utterly garbage he was, and how he dragged down the performance of the entire o-line. Our offense as a whole performed far better even when Velasco got subbed in for Amini.

Two guys didn't even make the roster over a pretty solid qb taken at 199 (although I sense some character concern as he is suspended four games this upcoming season).

 2000 Carolina Panthers draft
Round Pick Player Position College Notes
1 23 Rashard Anderson  Cornerback Jackson State
2 57 Deon Grant  Safety Tennessee
3 82 Leander Jordan  Offensive tackle Indiana (PA)
4 120 Alvin McKinley  Defensive tackle Mississippi State
5 147 Gillis Wilson  Defensive end Southern
6 182 Jeno James  Guard Auburn
7 221 Lester Towns Linebacker

Washingto

My point is really you cannot say Amini was worst because Glenn is awesome (because with that knowledge he is long gone at that pick), or Brown was not that bad as the Patriots wasted the pick (same reasoning, they don't if they have hindsight).

So the only comparison that makes sense is relative value of that pick in that draft class.

While below average starter/solid backup is not good value in the second. It is easy to pick out ten worse picks, starting with Brown.

Tshimanga Biakabutuka over Eddie George...

DeShaun Foster over Clinton Portis...

Correct me if I'm wrong...I have a terrible memory.  But I think the first time Deshaun touched the football he ran it for a long TD (I believe it was in the preseason).  I was so excited.  And honestly he wasn't a bad player in any case I don't think.

I wouldn't call him a bad player, but I wouldn't have taken him over Clinton Portis.
