Cant even find a Fred Lane highlight on youtube

Recommended Posts

Man, how sad is it that this guy is so forgotten you can not even find a clip of him on youtube?  I mean I remember he was on Madden doing his worm celebration on the opening video one year...  Anyone have any video of him?  I was bummed that I could not find ONE video on youtube.

Heard stories through a friend that knew him. Very generous guy, often when he didn't have to be.

He would never go down on first contact. He'd be great to watch on youtube. Sad about that.

Once again, a guy let go because of too much personality. They never forgave him after the worm.

His career was pre-digital video era for the most part. YouTube didn't come around until 6 years after his death. Couple that with the fact that the panthers weren't good enough at the time for anyone to bother digitally transferring game clips from VHS.

yeah there are a couple youtube channels where people (mainly fans of other teams) have incidentally uploaded clips of the late 90s/early 00s panther teams because they were playing a team that was good at the time

like this dude

e: not a perfect example because that was a badass panther team beating up the channel owner's favorite team but still

What other memories do you have about the Panthers that you can't find on YouTube?

I remember DeShaun Foster taking it 63 yards for a TD the first time he touched the ball in a preseason game vs. the Redskins...

Dwight Stone got knocked the F out on a return one time... I think it was vs. the Lions... but he got up, and his eyes were rolling side to side in his head and he fell back down...

I can barely find anything with Willie Green or Mark Carrier in a Panthers uniform...

Howard Griffith pancaking the hell out of dudes...

Fred Lane.

When I was 10 in 2000 I wrote Fred Lane a letter with one of his cards included and a drawing I made for him. Mailed it to the stadium and I kid you not, the next day the news broke about his wife killing him. Within a couple weeks I received the letter, unopened, back to my home in Maine. I honestly might still have the letter laying in one of my old scrap books but I am currently across the country. Would be interesting to read it today knowing what happened within a day of writing that letter.

Amazing that his wife, the murderer, was released in 2009. Is that justice? What a joke.

Battered wife defense. In this case there was no evidence for it (if anything Fred was the abused spouse), but it works every time.
