SI: How will the Panther Defense's personality change with Norman gone?

listen you homos while josh was probably the most outspoken, unique, and memorable character on the 2015 carolina panthers defense he in no way shape or form led the personality or the heart or the character or whatever word you want to choose of the unit

that was set in stone by the coaching of steve wilks, ron rivera, the example of luke kuechly, and the veteran leadership of thomas davis. everything else was secondary (lol) to what those four dudes did. you couldn't poo on that team without making sure those guys were on board with it, and every time josh was about to go on one of his insane rants or pout about something that went wrong davis and kuechly shut it down. every time we had an injury in the secondary (like every five minutes) the coaches made sure we had someone ready to go in their place.

Josh is a great player. the Panthers defense will be fine.

Besides the obvious, I think Coleman deserves more credit.  He's a stable presence back there and he played with half of his nose hanging off his face all last year.  I think he's a great personality on our D.  Also Shaq has a chance to step in and fly around laying wood.

I'm wonder if you gave Thomas Davis, Luke, Steve Wilks, ron rivera and few others truth serum. Then ask them how much of a headache Josh was(years ago&now), I'm curious about the answers. I understand Josh needed to "be\feel" a certain way to play his type of CB. Just the constant tantrums, him doing his own thing(early years) and psycho behavior, was tiresome. Similar to Smitty getting into "fights" and the period where he needed medical assistance after each catch. The " o here we go agains".......

The only difference that I think we will notice is that teams will not have to avoid one side of the field like they did when Norman was obviously one of the best in the business last season. The good thing about that is that we still have the same front 7, if not a better one - and that develops younger and guys and gives them a chance to be play makers like Josh turned into.

Yep, I think that D-line is definitely gonna be nastier then they were last season. I can't wait to see what Butler can do. If he can keep learning as fast as he did in those few senior bowl practices, look the f##k out. He's gonna be a monster.

I understand do why they wrote this article but at the same time it does seem a little silly. They talk as if we lost a Luke Kuechly or something. Norman gave us 1 full all pro year out of 4 NFL seasons...I don't think his loss will have much if any effect on the defense at all.

We definitely had a noticeable need for somebody like Josh the first part of 2014 after Hardy came off the field. We plugged Josh in and the defense as a whole got a lot nastier and improved with that.

Its a legitimate concern that we have too many nice guys on the defensive side of the ball.

Josh was Josh on the defense. His personality didn't dictate the overall personality of the squad, in my opinion at least.

Everyone else had a lunch pail mentality that I would say comes from TD. TD is the Defensive tone setter.

This! and let's not forget Luke. There were several times in the playoffs when I saw him get all up in Finnegan's or McClain's grill when they were out of place. these rookies will learn fast enough, or get an ass full of TD's or Luke's cleat.
