"PFF: Panthers worst secondary in NFL"

Recommended Posts

Thinking the Panthers secondary is going to win against the QBs and WRs the Panthers will face is like believing the Titans have a legit shot at winning the AFC Championship. Highly unlikely, but now is the time to believe it can happen for all of their fans.

I think boston/coleman will be great this year.  The chemistry is there both have all the ability to make plays and hit.

Bene is as solid as the come and also brings the wood.

So that leaves us with nickle and another outside question mark.  We drafted three corners.....atleast one of them has to be half decent.....guess we will know in the next few weeks.

Those receivers from last year were part of the #1 offense. Obviously not the greatest but def not last place. That is the point Im trying to hammer home. We shouldnt be ranked last in anything,

You can make a case for our receivers  being the worst last season.

As of right now ... with the unknowns ... its a fair assessment.  Peanut and JNo are gone.  Bene is coming back from an injury.  Other than Bene, we have rookies and a couple journeymen.  Not very strong on paper.

I understand what you are saying about JNo not having the most interceptions but that doesn't account for everything.  Opposing teams had to account for him in their gameplan.  Also, McD could roll safety coverage away from JNo, which made it even tougher.  JNo's absence, and the lack of a credible replacement (at this point), opens up the field.  It's going to hurt.  We just don't know how bad yet.

Just cause a player is a rookie, and an unknown, doesn't make it a fair assessment.  That's bullshit fed to you by the writers themselves. If it was a fair assessment, then every rookie is gonna suck, regardless of the teams that picked them, and what round they were picked in.

I'm sorry, but the writers, need to stop being lazy. Our secondary isn't going to suck. I know you, and many others are fearful, but I've been watching pro football to long to buy into that crap.

Yes, we have unproven rookies that will be playing an important role on our defense. Every year we have rookies playing important roles. That's football. And I'd much rather be a team that has to rely upon it's proven front seven, than the other way around. These rookies will grow fast. I'm not worried.

The point I made about the writers being lazy is still true. I know how and why they write like that, but it doesn't make what they are saying credible, at all.

Can't blame them for thinking this.  Bene as a #1 with Mcclain and a gaggle of rookies certainly shouldn't be ranked high.  We'll see.

Shouldn't be ranked at all. but it's easier just to rank them low, cause the crap has to be written.

and people buy into it.

Well this is DG's 4th offseason. He's almost built a complete team. OL used to be crap, now it's a strength. Hopefully CB can make the same transformation and DG's job of building a complete team will be accomplished. He might've already done it if Norman didn't decide to leave. I just hope we don't stand pat with what we currently have going into week 1.

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
