A crazy idea?

I know lots of guys are going to shoot me down while I mention this but anyway...

What about playing Peppers as DT, he is not effective from the edges, he may be he can create havoc with inside linemens...

In this way, we could be on run down, Brayton, Lewis, Peppers, Brown and in passing downs Johnson (or Hilee), Lewis, Peppers, Brown....

I know it is lightweight against the run but with all the beef we have in front we are not like a wall against the run at the moment...

If you look to the Colts, their Linemens are also average 285 lbs mostly, their run defense is horrible, a respectable pass defense (but they are winning). Our pass defense is already ranked 3rd in league at the moment, so little improvement in run defense can change the picture

I think I start to understand what is Meeks trying to do (I doubt we have the personal about it but..)....In his design, Linemens are not supposed stop to run, they should attack the gap. cause chaos in the backfield, so they can redirect the RBs to linebackers and they should tackle or cause fumbles....

What is hurting us at the moment, is the inability of our linebackers to tackle (look to the Schlling and his rumbling between Beason and Davis).....

So if our LB increase little bit their level of play and if our linemens can penetrate little bit, things are not going to look that bad...

Think about it, if Beason and Davis could make that tackle, special teams didn't allowed that 50 yards return at last 50 seconds in the second and DeAngelo didn't fumble (if he didn't I have a strong feeling it is going to be a scoring drive), things would not look that bad today...

It's a thought, but I honestly don't believe moving Peppers around is going to help. One of his prior complaints was his being misused (dropping him in coverage). Doubt this would be any different.

Lack of interior pressure is a longtime issue, but I don't think it'll be solved this way.

Well, I know what you mean but that is also one of the reasons I propose this....

I don't know what is Peppers is hoping for next year.

If he don't perform, I guess nobody would make him an offer he thinks he deserves also if he don't perform this year, do you think Panthers Franchise him?

Or if Peppers is free from Panthers franchise tag he would sign with a team with that he like, for a lesser amount....

DE or DT, Peppers should perform to get his payday, so if we place him in DT he has to perform there....

Second part of the crazy idea, could we trade Peppers when he is under franchise tag, lets ship him out for Glen Dorsey of Chiefs..

How about Pepppers at WR and move Jarrett to DE? Watching Pep play is so sad, he has so much ability and no heart. The Falcons blocked him one on one almost the whole game. Does he not realize his next contract will be based on this years performance?

One way is to get creative where he lines up all over the D. 60% at DE, 15% at DT, 20%at LB, and throw him at Safety the other 5%. Make every O-coordinator have nightmares by never knowing where will line up. We also need to through out some 3-4 looks, him at OLB, to keep the O on its toes. It's time we use his one of a kind athleticism

Tyler Brayton is playing lots of DT in passing downs...

He is not looking like a genie to me or much better DE then Peppers....

And with our extremely simplified defense, Peppers should only attack his gap and QB... He doesn't need an engineering degree for it

Why limit him to just defense?

Maybe what we need is a 5-2 defense.

Just overload the line, have the linebackers work like short safeties, and bring the secondary up to challenge each receiver right at the line.

Line 'em up: Peppers, Brown, Lewis, Johnson, Brayton with Davis and Beason backing them up for run support. You'd overload the offensive line on every play and wear down the opposition pretty quickly.

Guards couldn't help tackles and the center would just get clobbered every play. Tight ends would be overworked just trying to block, which would shore up our weakness in covering them.

And with the sideline to sideline speed displayed by Davis and Beason, running back sweeps wouldn't be effective, especially since it would be near impossible to pull a guard to run cover for them.

Or work with Diggs and Beason as the LBs with Davis playing a rover back, hybridized between SS and LB.

Just a thought.

Too bad we pretty much strictly run the shitty ass Cover 2, or some of this creativeness that were talking about might do some good. Its pretty easy for the offense when the defense is running the same terrible play every down.

This is what I see:

If a play involves running, Julius hustles as much as anybody. He's perfectly willing to chase down anyone, whether it's Adrian Peterson or Mike Vick. And, he's willing to make a tackle.

If a play involves a collision, Julius shies away, whether it's a tackle or guard or fullback.

How many football players don't like contact? How would JP do as a linebacker in a 3-4 where blockers have a running start at him?

Does anyone else want to know what was JP's best offer from other teams? What was the best offer given to the Panthers?
