Riverboat Ron feels disrespected

we all know Riverboat Ron has cajones the size of grapefruits. But we also know that he only whips them out when going for it on 4th down. Very rarely has he ever decided to voice displeasure with the shield. But today David Newton wrote an article about how Ron feels disrespected about the scheduling. Bringing to light some of the problems we discussed on this board when the schedule came out.

Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera feels "disrespected" that the NFL schedule makers didn't allow the defending NFC Champions to open at home.

He called it a "pain in the ass" to spend the entire offseason reliving the 24-10 Super Bowl 50 loss to Denver so the league could schedule a rematch at Denver to kick off the season.

"Forget the fact that you're the defending NFC champs and you deserve to open up at home in front of your home crowd on opening week," Rivera said on Friday, eight days after a 21-20 loss to the Broncos. "We're going to make you guys relive it for five more months. That's how I felt.

"So for the next five months I've got to put up with it, deal with it, answer the questions and relive it constantly over and over and over. Honestly, it became a pain in the ass."

Rivera didn't find any solace in the league giving Carolina 10 days to prepare for a San Francisco team coming off a Monday night game.

He immediately pointed to Carolina's late-season Monday night game at Washington followed by a Saturday game against Atlanta. He also reference having to play at Seattle a week after playing at Oakland.

The Panthers plan to spend the week practicing in California to avoid consecutive cross-country flights.

"I mean ... we asked for certain things to help us out," Rivera said. "We didn't get any of it. I'm disappointed. Let's be honest. I've got a group of men in there that do the things that we ask the last five years, it's been a battle to get to where we are ... sometimes I feel disrespected."

He was that mad and then still came out and nodded politely while Denver players headhunted. Then decided not to go for 4th and 1 and then wasted a time out because he was afraid to lose a time-out.

I would hate to see complacent Ron if this is angry Ron.

Agreed.

This is his SECOND time publicly complaining about the schedule, but he had to "review the tape" to see if Cam was being abused in the game before he made a comment.

You don't get fined or punished by the league for complaining about the schedule.

Ron understands what football is and made a living playing on a team where every week Mike Singletary and Steve Mcmichael murdered QBs and his own QB, Jim Mcmahon, who was one of the toughest SOBs to play in this league was regularly destroyed out of pure retaliation by opposing defences.

If he decides not to call out the league when it comes to protecting his QB, then maybe we should trust that he knows what he's talking about.

Lets not turn this thread into a bash Rivera thread and appreciate that he's spitting hot truth here.

    • Let it all out bro.   At the end of the day Charlotte fans just aren't that passionate as other fans. The Panthers and Hornets crowds are wack.    Go to a Canes game and you will understand this. Tell the family I said hi and Happy Father's Day.
    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
    • You do know the biggest military base in the US is located just an hour from Raleigh in Fort Bragg right? Military families are family oriented. A hour drive to games is nothing compared to traveling 3 hours to Charlotte.   Cmon man there is nothing happening in Western Carolina other than Charlotte. I only go west for outdoor activities and some nature/mountain views.
