Panthers DE Solution: Horton on RDE, CJ and Ealy Rotated at LDE

According to the Panthers, another subtle yet huge change was the switch up on the DE position.

Ealy had been starting on the right side of the defensive line opposite  Charles Johnsonicon-article-link.gif . But last Sunday against the Cardinals, the Panthers started run stopper  Wes Hortonicon-article-link.gif  on the right side and rotated Ealy in, predominantly on the left side.

And honestly, this subtle change might've led to getting consistent outbreaks from our D-Line. Ealy hasn't really shown much on the right side, hence one of the reasons he's currently sackless and threatless, but having a good rotation for CJ and Ealy may turn out to be the best solution so far.

Wes Horton has been playing pretty consistent too from what I could tell. I think this will help bandage our DE deficit for a bit.

"He's a dynamic pass rusher, and one of the things we noticed and that the coaches talked about during the bye week and last week was that most of his consistent plays and opportunities come from the left side," head coach Ron Rivera said. "Charles (Johnson) is playing very well, and rotating Kony into that spot seemed to spark a little bit for him. Kony didn't get a sack, but some of the pressures he had and some of his rush in terms of getting the quarterback off his spot, that's what we're looking for – and we're looking for him to do is consistently."

Considering his Superbowl position was LDE, this is a huge development. Him and CJ rotating in and out of LDE will help keep both of them fresh. CJ is not an every down DE at this point in his career, but with a good DE in Ealy backing him up, and making plays, I think this in turn will help churn our defense yet again.

One of the many subtle changes on the Panthers defense I think will help us for the long run.

Do you agree with the coach's plan? Do you think CJ and Ealy rotating at LDE will prove to be a really good solution?

That's what I'm thinking. These guys are coaches in the NFL and spend countless of hours watching film. How are they just noticing this?

Trying not to be naive but when the team has sucked this bad you would have thought they would have tried something.

Part of the reason is that most times you are watching game tape from the last game on Monday, developing your gameplan on Tuesday and installing it Wednesday through the rest of the week. You don't have much time for self evaluation until the bye.  Which is what we did and why we made the changes.

That kind of doesn't sit well with me. It didn't take a whole lot of effort to see this change needed to be made. If its that hard for them, maybe we just need some staff that does nothing but evaluate and bring suggestions to the coaches.

You act like coaches and staff don't have much to do during the season. Coaches are known to sleep at the office and still don't get enough time to do everything that needs to be done.

    • Bryce is undoubtedly mediocre to average at best in processing and decision making. He is in no way shape or form some mini Peyton Manning or a mental savant. And it is absurdly insulting that people are still simultaneously pretending otherwise while insinuating other QB's are basically mental midgets. Like man someone has to be really damn dug in to come post something like that 4 years in. The cope is real folks.
    • The NFL and ESPN had their merger doing this, idk if that's part of it or not.
    • It was 100% Stoopid then and still now. A 80 year NFL owner makes comments about women and liken tight jeans, so what he now must sell the team, total hogwash. This was a classic of other NFL owners not liking how JR bullys them in owner meetings. No chance Id sell over that nothing burger. Sue me, Id have soooo much blackmail on other owner and the NFL, please lets meet in a public court room for me to share.....Id hire a female lawyer and request she wears skin tight blue jeans for my enjoyment.....
