This isn't me stating that it is worse as a Panthers fan, this is just to have a discussion.  Some of you are getting upset to even make the comparison, but I think there is a valid discussion to be had.  I view it much like the long debated "would you rather be blown out in a loss, or lose in the last seconds?"  Essentially, in this equivalent, the Browns are being blown out, and we are losing at the last second, but it one better than the other?

And I think the discussion is worth having because for all of the reasons people have mentioned as to why "it isn't even close," because we've had great players and reached two Superbowls...  we've also had 1-15, and 2-14, and multiple mediocre seasons immediately before and after those successful runs, and we have historically let many of our star players go until Cam and Luke.  We have never had sustained success, and it's arguable that we are the only franchise in the league (possibly in all of professional sports), to have such a consistent history of being inconsistent.  So, is it really that great of an accomplishment, when you immediately take three steps back for every step you take forward?  That, in a nutshell, is our history as a franchise, whereas the Browns just suck and know they suck, with no hope of getting better.  Again, I go back to the, "would you rather be blown out in a loss, or lose in the last seconds?" argument.

Actually I would say being a Buffalo fan is the worst thing in the league b/c it's a combination of high hopes but still knowing you suck. Let's look at the reasons.

1. The franchise has maybe 1 AFL championship? Otherwise the 60s, 70s, 80s, 00s, and 10s are forgettable.

2. 4 Super Bowl appearances without a win is what your franchise rests its laurels on.

3. A ridiculous fan base that is over the top because the team is such garbage, but they have undying love.

4. Threatened to become first Canadian NFL team.

5. The most memorable Buffalo Bill ended up being a murderer (OJ Simpson). Seriously imagine looking up to him and then he brutally murders his wife and others.

6. They are based out of Buffalo, NY, literally the most depressing town in the United States.

7. The last time they made the playoffs was the year that the Browns came back.

8. Drew Bledsoe is their best QB since Jim Kelly. He was ultimately beat out by JP Losman.

9. Squandered away Marshawn Lynch.

10. Every year they are teased with a run (such as now at 6-5) ultimately to fall off in December.

Good points, but honestly, I actually think we are the new Bills.  They are the best comparison if there is one, but I chose the Browns to compare us to because they are widely considered the most long suffering fans.

But, the Bills history of mediocrity I think is as close as we come to a legit comparison.

Browns fans have it easy. They go in to every season knowing they will suck, and sure enough, they suck. Expectations are met.

We go into the season thinking Superbowl, and suck. That is true heartbreak.

Is it better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all?

it is sad Cleveland use to give the Donkies a hell of a game in the playoffs in the 80's but since the move to Baltimore they have sucked..Like the Bobcats still suck u killed the mojo by moving the Hornets to NO...For the Panthers we are pretty lucky as a franchise and my co-worker is a Jags fan.. so he is envious of our success to Jax..as you youggins might not know Carolina and Jacksonville joined the NFL the same year.so the Brownies have it worse but not my problem :).

We do. Browns fans have no expectations on winning. They truly go and watch the games for the entertainment. On the other hand, we have Cam Newton and Luke Keuchly. We have winning expections. We have accomplished a lot so we expect that.

LOL "shipwreck Ron"

That makes it better not worse Debbie Downer

Shut up. We have it worse bc we have high expectations and we are losing. But a Debbie downer I am not. I pick us to win every week and don't believe in tanking the season. Browns fans do not care if they win or lose, they don't expect anything.

    • Interestingly I think we have kind of of gone through this as an organization. Richardson implemented an FO driven tank. Bad roster, no cash spent, coach uninterested. It may have been for different reasons but I think the results were the same. A team that wasn't going to win many if any games. We ended up with the #1 pick. Cam Newton came in and changed the franchise. It worked, but Cam himself pointed to the losing culture in the locker room needing to be changed. It probably took about 2-3 years for that to happen. Tank worked pretty damn well for us. Cam is one of one. Not another like him, everyone can't deliver on his draft status AND change a culture basically on his own.  So as an exercise here are the last 30 #1 picks. If you tanked and got to pick #1 how many of these guys do you think were worth it? Not just good players, but franchise changers. Guys who will take your culture and shift it so the tank was actually worth it. I would say maybe 9 or 10 guys would be worth a tank, pending the last 5 picks?    2025: Cam Ward (Miami (FL)) - Tennessee Titans 2024: Caleb Williams (USC) – Chicago Bears 2023: Bryce Young (Alabama) – Carolina Panthers 2022: Travon Walker (Georgia) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2021: Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2020: Joe Burrow (LSU) – Cincinnati Bengals 2019: Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) – Arizona Cardinals 2018: Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) – Cleveland Browns 2017: Myles Garrett (Texas A&M) – Cleveland Browns 2016: Jared Goff (California) – Los Angeles Rams 2015: Jameis Winston (Florida State) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2014: Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina) – Houston Texans 2013: Eric Fisher (Central Michigan) – Kansas City Chiefs 2012: Andrew Luck (Stanford) – Indianapolis Colts 2011: Cam Newton (Auburn) – Carolina Panthers 2010: Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) – St. Louis Rams 2009: Matthew Stafford (Georgia) – Detroit Lions 2008: Jake Long (Michigan) – Miami Dolphins 2007: JaMarcus Russell (LSU) – Oakland Raiders 2006: Mario Williams (North Carolina State) – Houston Texans 2005: Alex Smith (Utah) – San Francisco 49ers 2004: Eli Manning (Mississippi) – San Diego Chargers 2003: Carson Palmer (USC) – Cincinnati Bengals 2002: David Carr (Fresno State) – Houston Texans 2001: Michael Vick (Virginia Tech) – Atlanta Falcons 2000: Courtney Brown (Penn State) – Cleveland Browns 1999: Tim Couch (Kentucky) – Cleveland Browns 1998: Peyton Manning (Tennessee) – Indianapolis Colts 1997: Orlando Pace (Ohio State) – St. Louis Rams 1996: Keyshawn Johnson (USC) – New York Jets 1995: Ki-Jana Carter (Penn State) – Cincinnati Bengals
