Is Kony Ealy a bust?

Well,  Kony is now ending his third year in the league. As a second round pick,  expectations were pretty high. After a solid Superbowl showing,  he seems to have regressed? 

Is Kony Ealy a bust? How much money and effort should the Panthers spend on keeping him around.

Shouldn't spend a gd nickel on him right now. Other than the SB he hasn't really done anything.  Next year is his make or break year.

Anyone with pff subscription that can check is the switch to use him more situational did any difference? (Of our happened, grade should be up and snap count down the last couple of games)?

Even if that is true, he is JAG with potential instead of JAG.

I dont see how you can come to the conclusion that he is anything other than a bust...he really hasnt ever done anything outside of that amazing superbowl.

Not sure I'm ready to label him a complete bust, but he's not what he ought to be at this point. Surprising given how much he looked to progress last season.

The word of attitude issues is also kind of a surprise given the story we saw pre-draft about him and his sister.  Gave a much different impression than what we've heard since.

He will finish his rookie contract and walk unless he signs as a backup.  Bust? Not necessarily, just disappointing that he isn't motivated to ball out.  He just kind of goes through the motions which is waisting his potential.

This season has been a frustrating one, especially up and down our D-line. Ealy flashed greatness in the Super Bowl, but he's apparently still a work in progress. Sadly, he might not be a star DE at this point, or even in the future, but I think he may be a good find as a rotational DE. We just haven't seen much to indicate it yet.

And that's the worst part of it -- this season makes it really hard to evaluate a guy like him. He hasn't had a stand out year in any particular way, but neither have any of the other guys on the line. CJ has had a couple of good games of late, but there were a whole bunch of games with nothing. Star has anchored the line pretty well and that's his job, one that doesn't always get the glory. Star has had nowhere near the season he had last year. Addison had a pop for a bit, but there hasn't been anyone else from the rotational D-line players that has really done anything.

How do you judge a completely unremarkable performance when the whole group is doing a meh job?

I wouldn't send him packing at the end of the season, but I sure would be reluctant to offer a contract above JAG levels at this point.

It is an interesting question and I tend to agree with @Khyber53. Something to note, although PFF can certainly be skewed, he has had some good numbers in games this season. Seeing that I don't watch him every play, the PFF rating does gives some feedback on his play. I thought he was totally absent in the last game and PFF rated him top 3 on defense if I'm not mistaken. 

He hasn't lived up to the SB hype but I don't think he has been a bust either. Probably somewhere right in the middle.

If he were a 4th or 5th round pick, he would have been a decent value pick. But as a 2nd rounder....he is a major disappointment.
