Mel Kiper Mock 1.0: Leonard Fournette be a Panther.

Has Kiper ever predicted any of our picks accurately since Dave arrived here? Or any of the draft experts?

Picking #8 however the realistic scenarios shrink and the odds increase significantly. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

I highly doubt:

1. Reuben Foster slides to 11

2. Derek Barnett lasts until 31 (L o effing L)

3. The Panthers will have an easy decision if those two and Fournette are on the board at 8.

I really think that all three would be great fits here, and I don't know who I would pick. Fournette is my guy, but Foster will be the best MLB to come out in a while (and would be good insurance for Luke) and Barnett is exactly the type of guy we need at DE.

My best guess is Foster doesn't slide to 8, Fournette and Barnett are there for us. We opt for Fournette as he'll have more of an immediate impact on our roster than Barnett.

Fournette really should be the pick though if available. Stewart would be a monster in a complimentary role and it would take a huge load off Cam's back for years to come.

If Fournette is actually the pick there might be a very good chance that Stewart is cut.  That is alot of cap to be tied up in a back up running back.

Also I really don't understand this idea of a second running back excelling in a complimentary role.  A #2 receiver gets to go up against a lesser cornerback usually so I understand that train of thought, but a backup RB plays against the same defense as the starting RB.  If he is a monster then he should also be if he is the starter.

At most you could make the argument that he is a upgrade over the backup, but in reality our coaches don't even activate a backup for Stewart on game days.  Tolbert is kind of the change of pace big back, Fozzy is the change of pace little back, and I think CAP is viewed as the every down back like Stewart.  In alot of ways Stewart fills the same niche as Fournette.

I really hope we don't move down from 8. I really want Adams, but logically, I don't see a scenario in which he is available at 8. He's one of those "has it all/low risk/top players" in this draft and could fit a few teams picking before us. If he is sitting there, I see no way in which Carolina doesn't run the card up to the podium lightning fast.

So, of the options that are realistically available, we should be able to select a stud at 8.

Whether it's Fournette, Barnett, Hooker or Allen..... we will get a franchise building block at a position of need. Moving down, IMO, puts us in the next tier of talent.  Though it is still solid, we truly have a chance to land a top tier talent to our roster..... something we haven't had since Luke, and also a draft slot I doubt we will see for quite a few years.

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
