Yeah, with CAP looking to be the next cut, we're looking at like 3-4 busts in the past 2 seasons.

Not to mention that bust of a WR "TE" we traded UP for in Funchess. I'm really starting to think people VASTLY overrate Gettleman's eye for talent.

Dude he was a 5th round pick.

You can't be a bust as a 5th round pick. You can only be a surprise stud.

He's been depth that has been able to start when Stewart was injured. We got all we needed out of him.

Not making the roster as a rookie is a bust for a 5th round pick. CAP is not a bust.

Issue was going to be that even if he finally played well this year, we aren't likely going to have the cap space next year to resign him.  We would have only been able to afford to resign him if he played middle of the road.  Unfortunate situation.

If he played decently this year though we could have received a compensation pick.

Patriots acquired DE Kony Ealy and a third-round pick from the Panthers in exchange for a second-round selection.

Just a couple days after taking a low-cost shot on Dwayne Allen, the Patriots are at it again. With a picked-over market at pass rusher, acquiring a former second-round pick by essentially moving down eight spots (assuming the picks are in 2017) is another piece of smart business from New England. That said, Ealy has been a below-average player outside of a memorable Super Bowl performance. The Patriots still have work to do on the defensive line.

Worthless pick, bust, whatever you want to paint it as remains the same. Going into semantics as to what round he was in is pointless. No one is pissing and moaning about it, just the truth.

CAP was a worthless pick. But staying on topic, Kony was a bust too and glad we got compensation.

So we basically gave up our third and Ealy for 8 slots LMAO

Ealy sucks, he will probably end up like Mingo and get cut after one season. I'm still pissed we drafted him over those good receivers.

Those 8 slots at the top of the 3rd where there's still going to be a lot of talent, we will get a chance to sign someone who would have been gone at the top of the 3rd before we could pick them . Or 2 second rounders is great trade bait to either move up in the first or trade back into the first

Don't know how I feel about this. Making a trade with the Pats makes me wary, they're prolly gonna turn Ealy into a stud. Pats 2nd round pick is also basically a 3rd round pick.

So instead of thinking about it as basically a 3rd round pick, think of it as the 1st pick in the 3rd round?  8 spots could be the difference between getting your guy and not getting him....

Just food for thought.

Who cares? If he wasn't going to make the team or wasn't going to get much time this year, he's not signing a big enough deal in 2018 for us to get a comp pick.

If we were going to release him, which is very possible if we take 1 top DE, then we get nothing. He may not make the Pats roster. They are taking a chance. Probably will make their roster because Sheard is a FA and Long said he was signing elsewhere.

We can't worry about if he somehow gets it later on. If he wasn't in our future, we got a late 4th/early 5th round pick for him instead of nothing.

That would mean Kony Ealy is officially a massive bust. There were so many quality receivers we could have taken with that pick.

    • These arguments are getting more and more disingenuous from both the pro and anti Bryce crowd. Bryce looked very good for stretches down the final 8 games. He finally showed glimpses of the guy that was projected as a top QB pick in the draft. Bryce also didn't look like a top 10 NFL QB.  I think we are so far removed from Prime Cam that we forget what an elite QB looks like. I could tell that when people were losing their minds and simping for Sam Darnold. This season needs to finally showcase Bryce as a franchise talent. If that doesn't happen, it's time to pivot. There are very few recent examples of QB's struggling or being a mixed bag through the first three seasons of starting and then suddenly becoming frachise caliber players.
    • See that's the thing what I saw in game 2 was so embarrassing id rather they could just forfeit
    • Are you arguing that his height deficiencies and footwork within the pocket have not been a present issue clearly seen on his game tape particularly in the games he struggled in? Because that's simply denying what everyone in this fanbase who have watched the games have seen. It's interesting how hardline BY fans here quickly and effortlessly pivot from whailing about being victimized to becoming the aggressor and hurling out allegations of bias and hatred. And at the end of the day while Bryce Young clearly improved significantly from the first two games of the season the reality of the situation is he still finished 42nd in yards per pass attempt behind Mac Jones and tied with Caleb Williams and 38th in passing yards per game behind the likes of Gardner Minshew Aidan O'Connell Drake Maye and Will Levis. Furthermore it took Bryce Young 23 games to surpass Panthers legend Kyle Allen's 13 games worth of passing yardage in 2019. So if your argument is he became a head and shoulders better passer over the course of the second half of the season the reality is we're still waiting to see that growth this season. And there is nothing controversial or vitriolic about saying so from the mind of a rational observer.
