In the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select Taylor Moton

 

TRENGTHS

 Big off the bus. Massive frame with good arm thickness and proportional build in his legs. Plus arm length with big hands. Starting experience at right guard and tackle. Comes off the ball with pad level. Makes concerted effort to drop hips and roll under his target at contact. Has dominant drive-blocking potential. His down blocks turn into steam-rollings. Coordinates hips and hands for maximum pop through point of contact as run blocker. Held his own against Ohio State in 2015 and smothered Illinois DE Dawuane Smoot this season. A bear with strong paws. Plays tend to end for defender once he latches on. Functional climbing to second-level target. Bull rushers won’t bully him very often.

WEAKNESSES

 Will need to play with quicker hands into punch as guard. Looping, wide approach with hands toward target could open his chest to defenders. Footwork needs plenty of work. Needs choppier feet. Waist bending in run game needs correction. Content to make blocks at angles that need to be squared up. Lateral and move blocks feature inconsistent base width. Issues coming to balance before contact if block isn't right in front of him. Average body control and athleticism. Will be limited to primarily power-based schemes. Has issues with oversetting in pass pro. Can be fooled by twists.

DRAFT PROJECTION

 Round 2-3

BOTTOM LINE

 Four-year starter for ascending Western Michigan program. Size and potential to dominate at the point of attack with pure power should make him a coveted right guard prospect. He can be a little stiff in his movements and his footwork needs plenty of work, but he's functional in both areas. Might need additional work before he is ready to take on the wily, athletic defensive tackles in the NFL, but his physical traits and power give him a chance to become a reliable NFL starter.

Great a small school OL...

 

Can't believe we went with three offensive picks first with how deep this freaking draft is at DB and DE.

Didn't yet grab a pass rusher, DB, or TE and that pisses me off. Hope Morton works out of course and we could still get a good pass rusher as a lot are still available but wow. It's all on Shula now.

I'm never a fan of small school offensive lineman, but I did not scout this guy at all. So I'm going to reserve judgement till then. 

I'm wondering if we see him as a guard or RT. That drastically changes how I feel about the pick. 

 

Needless to say: there is NO doubt in my mind Gettleman was completely dissatisfied with the team he put around Cam last year and was determined to fix that. That's a great sign.

      This is the new thing lol. It’s all open to interpretation and it’s your fault for your interpretation. The guy saying “stop teasing” was really very upset with Bryce Young being injured, not excited. Ignore his other posts that seem to indicate the opposite. And don’t you know “Exciting not to see Bryce!” was in no way happy with Bryce Young getting injured. Again, don’t bother looking at the rest of the posts for further context. And definitely nobody was making fun of him by saying he was injured by the water boy bumping into him, or it was a gentleman’s benching, or his feelings got hurt. And the comments about him getting tackled by a finger graze or getting taken down by a stiff fart were not hyperbolic over reactions to the play that just happened, it was just general conversation completely unrelated to that play. And of course none of their views are tainted by a desire to see Bryce Young fail, they all want the best for him and the team, that’s how you know for sure that you are totally taking all the posts the wrong way. Really can’t believe you would make up all these lies. gaslighting /ˈɡasˌlīdiNG/ noun noun: gaslighting the practice of psychologically manipulatingsomeone into questioning their own sanity, memory, or powers of reasoning.

      I mean we had more of a defensive need in the 2025 draft than we may in the 2026 draft(so far). But we took a TE. We did it in the 5th round. Also he has overwhelmingly been our best TE to date. He and the FA pickup. I think you just have an extremely skewed view of TE's in the NFL. I would implore you to take a look at some draft history, depth charts and career progressions of a lot of those players. You are going to see ample examples of lower round guys being drafted and then immediately starting at TE. The reason it isn't rare is that there aren't many TE's taken in the 1st at all.  It's the same with other positions. You think that it's impossible to find a C outside the 1st? Well....most of them aren't 1st rounders because they rarely get taken there. How about OG? The NFL is mostly non-1st round OG's and the elite tier is almost all not former 1st round OG's. How about RB's? Pretty similar right? That's not just numbers, it's positional value historically. High value positions litter the first round. It's always been that way.

      The "mob" was into a lot of things back in the day. They were fixing fights mostly but branched out into illegal gambling and booze during prohibition. Points shaving was mostly attributed to the coaches or players themselves but I'm sure the mob had a hand in it themselves. But they were making more money in the drug market than they could with gambling by the 1980s and gambling was getting legalized.
