Voth: Proehl didn't really push receivers

Wasn't talking about during games, I've been to camp numerous times since he took over as OC, and had seen coaches get in players' faces during camp. Wilks one of the most. Shula never. Not saying it's good or bad, just an observation of mine. Continue your Shula love p55.

You mistake love for rational discussion based on the facts and a tendency to take the side of the coaches of the team I love unless I think the criticisms are justified and unbiased. Somehow you seem to be intimating that not being fiery and getting In peoples face is a bad thing. Otherwise why bring it up.? As I said many  OCs are cerebral and not fiery and they are fine.

That drill searjeant BS looks good in movies, and works in the amateurs. These are men, with a lot of money. They decide how much effort they give. If anyone understands that it's proehl

There are clearly many here who have irrational hate for Shula. I'm not one of them, and I think I'm pretty objective. I don't hate Shula or even think he should've necessarily been fired but there are definitely valid concerns about him. And from what I've seen from you here, whenever some valid concerns with him are brought up you jump to his rescue, which to me is irrational defending of him, similar to those who irrationally hate him just on the other end of the spectrum. I am optimistic about my team and support every member of the organization but that doesn't mean I have to blindly think that everybody associated with the organization is great.

I'm not "intimating" that at all. Just commenting on some of my observations in a thread about a coach not pushing his players enough.

Every coach has their pros and cons and own style. I think Proehl obviously was a good teacher and mentor.

There was complacency across the board last year, so I think it's unfair to put the blame on any single group. That being said, the WR group underperformed last year as much as any (especially KB and Funchess). And they didn't have injuries like the offensive line to blame it on.

Sounds like in the end, a change will be good. What Proehl did with Ginn and Philly in 2015 will always be appreciated by me. I do hope the new coach can get more out of KB and Funchess

Feel like maybe Proehl took that route because he was a "young" coach in ways, and he was mostly teaching young guys. He probably toed the line to be their friend more so than their coach at times.  If true...yeah, hard to truly motivate a guy like Kelvin when he's overweight.

Whatever the potential issue was...hopefully it's solved by some young talent being shipped out already and a coaching change.

So your observations that Shula isn't fiery in a thread about a coach not pushing his players enough by pure deductive logic is intimating that you think he should be pushing harder. If you didn't think that, you would say something to the effect that although Shula doesn't get fiery he seems to get the most out of his players. And you didn't.
That seems to be a problem with many posters here. You think you are objective and unbiased and you have no clue how biased and one sided every post is. You are one of the worst when it comes to blaming Shula every time someone says anything about Cam. The fact you even suggest you are objective and supportive of every member of the organization is laughable. The fact you actually believe that is sad.

When was a player who does not have the drive to be the best become better because of the coaches....

Does Luke, Steve Smith, needs coaches to push them to get better...Benjamin, Funchess, will have so so carriers, until they hang their cleats, this WR that we get in the 2nd round I see the same craziness him that Steve Smith had (not off-field shenanigans, how he was on the field, world against me attitude.... )

Proehl is a fan fav for sure, but you get way more fan praise than player praise.  Nothing against him, but having never been coached by the guy the best I can do is not railroad him for leading an under performing group of young promising receivers before for unexpectedly retiring going into their career defining seasons.

The coaches have way too little access to the player for the drill sargeant approach to work. If a player does not show up in shape for training camp being really though is just going to get him hurt. Your core muscles can take the work but smaller support muscles will wear out (most likely why Benjamin hurt his knee having fought his way back to shape way to late).

Plus a first round pick sitting on a 5 year rookie deal knows he is way more important to the team than the coach screaming at him. If he is the kind of guy that does not stay in shape in the off season, he is most likely not going to listen to screaming either.

Well jeez-- I would structure his incentives to be at weight, speed, and strength parameters--

Oh wait-- shouldn't we do this as standard for all contracts?

Hummmm,... what a novel idea

The players union did away with most of that in the last bargaing agreement. Lots of lazy players out there.
