Rotoworld: Stewart to outcarry a punt/kick returner

Recommended Posts

The Panthers' website expects Jonathan Stewart to "see the bulk of the carries" despite the addition of Christian McCaffrey.

Per team writer Max Henson, "everyone from head coach Ron Rivera to running backs coach Jim Skipper has insisted that Stewart's role will not change." While Stewart out-carrying McCaffrey would be a surprise after the Panthers drafted McCaffrey at No. 8 overall, it's true that fantasy drafters have been sleeping on Stewart as a significant threat to McCaffrey's ceiling and floor, particularly in the touchdown-scoring department.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Stew has more carries, but I expect CMC to likely end up with more overall touches. Partly because he'll have a lot of receptions and partly because Stew will likely miss some time and/or be limited by injury if history is any indication.

This is what I think, also.

My thought exactly. Between return duties and how Shula *should* use McCaffrey, there should be plenty of non-rushing touches.

Stewart is one if the best in the game when he is healthy. Should not surprise anyone that actually follows the team.

He once was, but those days are sadly behind us. CAP actually had a slightly higher YPC average in the games he filled in for Stew and the staff doesn't even deem him worthy of a jersey on game day unless Stew can't go. Stew is a lot better in pass protection, but his days as a dominant runner are likely past.

Personally I'd like to see more CAP carries before writing him off. 36 attempts last season isn't enough of a test IMO, but then I'm not watching practices either. I don't think the OL helped Stew much and when that's the case it's not that hard for a decent D to shut down a Stew type back.

CAP was never a long term solution. Dudes already pushing 30. CMC is the future and will be taking CAP's roster spot barring injury.

    • every team having an international appearance every year is almost guaranteed right now.  Panthers will be the Home team in Germany once every four years in the current rotation (2028 being next). List of home game markets: Argentina: Dolphins Australia: Raiders, Rams, Eagles, Seahawks Austria: Lions, Colts, Chiefs, Pats, Seahawks, Bucs Brazil: Lions, Dolphons, Pats, Eagles Canada: Bills, Bengals, Cards, Lions, Vikings, Seahawks China: Rams Colombia: Dolphins France: Saints Germany: Falcons, Pathers, Lions, Packers, Colts, Chiefs, Pats, Giants, Steelers, Seahawks, Bucs Ghana: Eagles Greece: Chargers Ireland: Packers, Jags, Chiefs, Jets, Steelers, Titans Japan: Rams Mexico: Cards, Cowboys, Broncos, Texans, Chiefs, Raisers, Rams, Dolphons, Steelers, 49ers New Zealand: Raiders, Rams, Eagles, Seahawks Nigeria: Browns South Korea: Rams Spain: Bears, Chiefs, Dolphins Switzerland: Lions, Colts, Chiefs, Pats, Seahawks, Bucs UAB: Rams, 49ers, Commanders UK: Ravens, Bears, Packers, Jags, Chiefs, Dolphins, Vikings, Jets, 49ers So if we're *not* the home team, then we should keep an eye out on our road trip schedule for any of these teams and assigned home countries for potential matchups Example:  if we're playing the Packers as a road trip, there's a chance that the NFL would make us play in Ireland or the UK for that matchup to align with GB's home marketing country
    • He did say he was likely to take a good OC spot over a bad HC spot. A little surprised he didn't go Lions. That's an insane offense to have your hands on.
