What were you worried about based on Pre-season, and how did it turn out yesterday?

I saw a lot of people sour on Russel Shepherd as pre-season progressed, but he did his job fairly well in scoring 2017's first touchdown.

I have worried about Samuel, and he still hasn't taken any meaningful snaps.

I think everyone worried about Gano, and he answered that well.

Your concerns?  How have they played out?

Cam not being ready..... he was not.

Matt Kalil concerns... he did not anger me at all

Mike Adams..... he was mediocre at best.

Graham Gano.... zero complaints

Benji building off of a monster preseason..... fail. Still doesn't use body consistently and poor mechanics overshadow his play

I never worry about anything based on preseason, primarily because preseason doesn't show much about what the team can or cannot do.  But based in large part on last season and us having some new pieces in it, I was concerned about the secondary, and while they struggled early, they shut SF down in the second half, albeit with a lot of help from the front 7.  I am glad we don't face a significant test of our pass defense until week 3.  The running game struggled in the first, but got significantly better as the game went along.  The offensive line protected Cam pretty well, but the run blocking left something to be desired.  But I do think SF was keying on the run.  Of course, we usually struggle with the run game early in the season.  Cam was extremely rusty, but I think that will pass as he gets deeper into the season.

Cam being a little rusty and which wr would show up. I had a feeling KB and Funch wouldn't do much, and without Ginn I was worried we would be screwed. Shep showed up when needed, which is refreshing. That being said, we need Samuel to step up big time if we want to continue to have success. We need that burner and that may free up KB.

I was concerned about our secondary. I still am. Too many open WRs and busted coverages. Luckily they were all underneath, which very well could have been the gameplan (keep everything in front of you)

i was concerned about Shula not getting CMC going. Turns out he went overboard and forgot about Olsen,Benji, andFunch. (Also think this could have been the gameplan to slowly work Cam back)

Overall we got a W, so not too mad, but I am concerned after watching Chicago and KC work their RBs masterfully.

Honestly, I think it all boils down to predictability on the offensive side of the ball. For example, 3rd and 8..... we all knew it was gonna be a slant to Benji before it happened. So did SF D. Luckily he dropped the pick. I think we're far too talented on offense to be predictable in any way shape or form.

I know that we will continue to build and get better, but it is frustrating knowing our RB is more talented than Hunt and Cohen and those two in particular were used masterfully.

The ball was going to CMC so often I was like damn...... The other players are gonna start not liking this guy.

The Sky isn't falling but those are my concerns.

D line and LBs played out of their minds! O-line did well at protecting Cam and getting a good push even when we were clearly running the ball. That's a very very big deal!

I can't wait until we can put defenses on their heels where they have no Fing idea what to expect.

    • I dont think that is worst case at all.  Worst case is Bryce is exactly like he was the last ten games and not really showing anything, making a decision hard.  If we suck this year there are like 5 potential franchise guys that should be coming out this year.
    • Bryce's play after coming back from his benching gives me a glimmer of hope but it's wild that a lot of Panthers fans are acting like he has arrived as a franchise QB because he put up some mediocre stats and basically simply just finally didn't look like a guy who flat out did not belong on an NFL field.  I'm anxious to see what he looks like this year and I'm hoping for continued growth but I still haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that he's capable of being a high level starter. Hoping he proves me wrong but honestly the worst case scenario would be that he comes out this year and plays like he did late last year. That's purgatory QB level. The type of guy who organizations get led to believe might be "good enough" but you're not competing for SBs with that level of QB play. I want Bryce to boom or bust this year. Go out there and prove me wrong and look like THAT DUDE or just revert back to looking like he doesn't belong. Don't leave me in purgatory. Let's get an answer to this question one way or the other.
    • Absolute worst case scenario for us is we suck, ignore the 5th year option, and draft a new QB onto a team that is pretty well built.  That being said, I think Bryce is turning a corner this year.
