Worth remembering about the defense...

They're adjusting to a new boss, which means a new system.

Yes, Wilks worked under McDermott, but that doesn't mean he's going to call things the way he did. You've probably changed bosses within a job before. Were there ever two exactly alike?

Overall, I'd say they've been pretty good starting out, which leads me to ask the question of how good they could be once they're better acclimated.

Granted, could still go either way, but for now I'm encouraged.

I'm not worried yet about the defense. They've dropped some interceptions that they should have caught.. Even Luke has.

Hoyer completed 24 passes and had less than 200 yards so he was throwing short and checking down.

Tyrod sucked until the final drive.

Brees and Brady are Brees and Brady. They're hall of famers for a reason.

We'll be fine

Neither am I.

Just pointing out something to consider, something which has the potential to be a big positive.

I am a tad worried. We have played 4 games, two of which had good quarterbacks and two of which had sub par quarterbacks. Against New England and New Orleans the defense has given up 33.5 points per game. Against the 49ers and Bills the defense is giving up 3 points per game.

The New Orleans game in particular was a disaster. It felt as though New Orleans knew exactly what was coming and they were playing without both starting OTs. Hopefully, it was an outlier and not a foreshadowing of future games.

Noticed that too, but we are a fairly old defense to be honest.

Yeah Im not super concerned, but if we aren't going to be able to generate turnovers then we may end up in a few precarious positions in the fourth quarter. Could be a stressful season.

So far, they've had two dominant games and then two games when they struggled a bit against elite QBs. That's gonna happen. Guys like Brees and Brady are gonna put up points. In those games especially, our offense has to come prepared to pull their weight. That's what happened against the Pats.

I'm wary of the pass rush, it seemed to run out of gas in the fourth quarter. Very reminiscent of 2015.

I really don't like how old we are on the edge. Peppers is 37, Johnson is 31, Addison is 30 and Horton is 27. Hall didn't even look close to ready in the preseason and now he is injured. Still mad about passing on Ogbah last year and Lawson this year.

That is an area of concern. Peppers is playing great but I am worried if he can keep it up all season long. I'm actually glad we have a late bye week this year. Hall was known to be a very raw prospect however.

I think that has more to do with what is being called by the coaches.  We get a lead, like Sunday, and we get really conservative.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
