Firing Shula will solve nothing...

The head coach is in charge of hiring assistants. Left to his own devices, Rivera will hire another OC just like his current one (and probably from within his current staff).

This team needs a complete overhaul. GM and head coach both need to go. But sadly, even that won't be enough unless Richardson allows someone else to pick their replacements.

So essentially, don't hold your breath on things getting better.

Yep. Firing Shula does nothing, just like firing Rivera does nothing. We will just try to replicate it with different coaches, more or less. It all starts with our owner. No back to back winning seasons in our history tells you all you need to know. JR's style of football should have stayed in the 80s. The reason Bill Belichick is so great is he has adapted every time the league changes. He's always in tune to what he can take advantage of.

Nope defense is playing really good thanks to Rivera, just need a new OC

Yep...if you fire Rivera you risk losing the defense progress. There’s a reason we could promote a guy with no DC experience and maintain a top 5 D. It’s RR. Problem is he’s looking very John Fox/Dan Henning-ish right now. If he sticks with Shula too long he’ll get canned. He knows it which is why if we struggle over he next two weeks I expect a mid season change at OC.

Sounds familiar.

    • From Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/nutshellsportz.bsky.social/post/3mo3rkrcezs2e  A look at Run Threat Rate across the NFL Run Threat Rate is the percentage of plays where a team either runs the ball or uses play action. This compares each team’s rate when leading or tied versus when trailing to show how much they abandon the run when playing from behind.
    • That's the current dilemma on both parties at the moment. If Ickey comes back too soon, he won't be 100% and his play will suffer. Leading to a potential decrease in his contract. If Ickey is unable to play and sits the entire 2026 season, his contract will still take the same hit since it tells all 32 team that he is not fully recovered. On the Panthers side, I'm sure they would want to keep Ickey if he is fully recovered but he is obviously in a contract year. They don't want to re-sign him to a massive deal since it be too risky and they know if Ickey is able to return to form.  Best case scenario, the Panthers wants to offer Ickey a 1-2 year heavily incentive based prove it deal. However, Ickey would most likely decline the offer and test the market as  another team can come in and offer Ickey a better deal if they are desperate enough for O-line help.
    • They have been giving him a lot of snaps at RT to give TMo some relief in camp. I think that will continue for the time being.
