Anyone who doesn't think Rivera deserves a lot of the credit for this is crazy. Not taking anything away from Wilks, who deserves HC consideration, but Rivera is one of the best defensive minds of the last 15-20 years.

I get the frustrations with him as a HC and his ridiculous loyalty to Shula, but other than the first year when we didn't have talent and when we've had a lot of injuries, he has presided over really good defenses.

I'm not being a homer for Rivera bc I can't believe we brought Shula back after last year, but he is a damn good defensive coach and has proven it time and time again over the last decade plus.

Well said. The man has a great mind for defense and would best be suited as a DC because his in game management and situational awareness has not improved in his tenure here. I also feel like he could control our offense more instead of giving it totally to Shula. Maybe not call plays but say “hey, stop running it every first down...please”.

Considering how often our offense turns the ball over in bad spots, the defense has been shaping up well. That said, they got lucky that Julio dropped that sure TD and they continue to give up easy scores late in games. They can certainly be better.

I happened to see that about an hour ago.  If we could just figure out a way to get some more turnovers and at least become above average on offense...I think at that point we would be a very hard team to defeat.

Yep. Was nice to see Adams' pick today but we really need our corners to get in on the action. None for Munnerlyn, Worley, Seymour and Bradberry...

Total Defense (YPG) Complete List
CAR_logo-80x90.gif 1. Carolina Panthers 274.1
2. Denver Broncos 280.8
3. Jacksonville Jaguars 281.2
4. Minnesota Vikings 282.1
5. Pittsburgh Steelers 286.6

We still have to continue to get better as far as creating some consistent edge pressure. Turnovers we definitely have to create more of them.

Yeah, cause stopping one of the best receivers in the game is a piece of cake.

I agree that we need to consistently get TOs. But I really do expect them to start adding up. Law of averages type thingy.

I think it was TD that had just mentioned this a couple weeks ago. The team expects the numbers to start trending up. Let's hope so. Because that can only make us better.

The best defenses find a way to slow down the opposing team's best offensive weapon. We didn't quite do that this game but we still won with a solid defensive stop at the end. That I did like but again, we'll need to improve if we want to follow the 2015 Broncos blueprint.

there are 3 first round linebackers

there are 2 first round defensive linemen

plus a slew of stud second rounders

turns out if you spend high draft picks consistently on a unit the unit performs well.

I’m pretty sure a lot teams have invested high round draft picks and they haven’t panned  out.

It one thing to acquire talent but it’s another thing to make it work as a unit on a consistent basis.

you are just a hater

The broncos are the perfect team to illustrate how little stats matter. They are 2nd overall in defense by yards given up per game.  They are 25th overall in defense by points per game allowed.  Just goes to show how significant the affect of turnovers and short fields is.
