So uh... apparently Ted Ginn fuging Jr. has the highest catch % of all WRs in the NFL

Time to wait for someone to blame this on Cam

It's not fair to "blame" Cam, but it's not correct to completely remove him from the equation either.

People will go to accuracy, but while that could play a role, I don't think that's the heart of it.

Would anybody argue that a pass from Drew Brees is easier to catch than a pass from Cam Newton?

Similar example: Would you rather try to catch a pass from Tom Brady or from Brett Favre?

The velocity of a pass makes a difference, as does the force with which it hits your hands. Any receiver who's caught passes from a fireballer would tell you that. A quarterback like Newton needs guys with tough enough hands to catch the hardballs he tends to throw.

Herb Brooks' line in Miracle about needing the right players more than the best players is a very true statement when it comes to building an NFL system. This is one of the areas where that principle applies.

Ginn signed a 3 year / $11 million deal with the taints. Shepard signed a 3 year / $10 million deal with us. I'd have paid that extra $333 K per year for Ginn. Even if Shep turns out to be better than he's playing now, Ginn was a proven commodity. G-man (bless his heart) screwed the pooch on this deal.

Gettleman was way in over his head this past offseason.

He took what were supposed to be bargain bin deals and offered to pay more than full price.

Shep, Munnerlyn and Kalil were most likely all speechless when they saw what was offered.

I think part of the blame has to fall on Cam. Because Cam throws at a lower completion % than Brees, his wide receivers tend to be more hesitant b/c they know the chances of an inaccurate pass floating their way is greater, or there's a greater likelihood of getting leveled in the middle of the field due to a pass that sails high

Cam's accuracy dictates the confidence of his wide receivers. Ginn leading the league in catch % is indicative of the more superior QB throwing to him.

Meh, rewatch the Ginn Carolina games and he dropped tons of layups deep.  All on Ginn on tons of should of been huge plays.

Something like this to me is just one of those odd stats that occur in a short window and nothing more.  A 10 game window that contradicts an entire career....is just a quirky window.  I wouldn’t over think it.

With all these posts about accuracy, you would think some of these people were living under a rock in 2015. Cam was throwing insane lasers at Ginn that season. Ted could have had another half dozen touchdowns and 2 or 300 more yards if not for the drops.

As accurate as Brees is, Ginn has clearly improved his hands.

For reference, Ted Ginn's quarterback history:

2007 - Trent Green / Cleo Lemon / John Beck
2008 - Chad Pennington
2009 - Chad Pennington / Chad Henne
2010 - Alex Smith / Troy Smith
2011 - Alex Smith
2012 - Alex Smith / Colin Kaepernick
2013 - Cam Newton
2014 - Carson Palmer / Drew Stanton / Ryan Lindley
2015 - Cam Newton
2016 - Cam Newton
2017 - Drew Brees

agreed. Cam hit him in the hands and the chest countless times and the ball fell straight through. But Cam's inaccurate yadda yadda yadda

You're a fuging moron if you think the switch from Cam to Brees is the reason. The only way that would make a difference is if Brees is out there slapping Gorilla Glue on Ginn's hands in the huddle. Cam has put it right on the money for Ginn numerous times only for the ball to go through his hands. This thread is revisionists history at it's finest.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
