Projected 2018 FA WR's..

WOW!!

Recommended Posts

I think the best thing we did to improve our WR corps is to get an OC and QB coach.  Accuracy (footwork) and timing are critically important.  I think we need to spend $$ on one elite WR--not 2.  Samuel and Funch are the other 2.  CMC is the fourth.  Byrd is a solid 5th WR.   If we sign 2 WRs, we have to bench Samuel--is that really what we want to do?  You have to develop your young talent, not bury them because they were not superstars on day 1.

I hope we draft a top TE and get a top FA WR.  We also need a T, RB, and possibly a C.  (I would probably release Stewart; RKalil, has one season left if you consider his current contract and his health--Mkalil will probably trigger an escape clause in his contract and not be back for 2019. )

We'd have to trade one of the extra 3rds for Josh Gordon since he isn't a free agent. The last season he played for the browns he only played in 5 games so he didn't accrue a full season.

But it's no secret if he stays on the right path he isn't signing with Cleveland long term so they'll probably lose him for nothing next summer.

And getting and extra 3rd in 2018 could be  more enticing then an end of the 3rd comp pick in the 2020 draft.

That's why he might be cheap and has to take a prove it deal.. You could potential sign him and a cheaper option like Wallace or Jaron Brown..

Brown, Funchess, Olsen, Byrd, Samuels, CMC... That's a lot of speed and shiftyness. Cam would have a field day with Norv if everyone stayed healthy.

Do not want Landry. Dink and dunk guy that would be over-paid. Watkins would be interesting if affordable, don't want Pryor, Lee would be solid, John Brown would be a great pick up for cheap. Two guys I would keep an eye on would be Jordan Matthews and Taylor Gabriel. I think Matthews would be the perfect compliment for Funchess as he is a good route runner and showed he could be a solid #2 in Philly. Gabriel is like a more experienced version of Samuel, but is very similar to Samuel/Byrd in terms of what he can do.

In order of want: Watkins>Matthews>Lee>Gabriel>Brown

Flash Gordon and Cam on the same team? Yeah, sign me up for that. Low risk, VERY high reward. If he messes up again, just cut him. I think having a QB like Cam would change Gordon a lot tbh

I would put my money on this really happening with Norv Turner coming here he had Gordon leading the league in yards 1,600 when he was in Cleveland. So I could even see sending a 4th pick if we had to. Then pick up a Terrel Pryor

Problem is a lot of what you're saying is considered already on the roster. It's positioning biding their time. Yeah we need an immediate impact to mirror samuel, but the staff will just see a healthy samuel and be good. We have Fozzy and CAP, answer on the roster, personally I don't see an upgrade out there to Stewart when there's other prioirities. Tackles are still more serviceable than they were two years ago, plus we have Moton. We need safety and a corner. I want Kyle Fuller, think he'd flourish here with Bradberry. Cut captain, put worley in the slot. Byrd isn't starting caliber, he's a wildcard. With Larsen, Kalil is expendable and a full offseason as starter and a chance to get stronger, answers on the roster. We need a veteran, pro-bowl caliber (not elite) wide receiver and an immediate impact and non-aging safety or two or three. Kurt Coleman really fell off this year.

Love the players on this list, but above all that stands out to me is Mike Wallace. Not because of the name, not because of what he can bring...i'm really surprised that he is as young as he is. I would have thought he was 30+. Could be a good second FA WR to bring in to complement a true #1 ala Gordon.

Was Norv Turner the OC in Minnesota when Mike Wallace’s career almost died there?

That is a good point and could be a factor. Maybe Wallace wouldn't want to play with Norv again.

However, a few things about Minnesota is that outside of Diggs/Thielen this year, the Vikings and (Bears) generally have been places where WRs go to die. Since 2005, the Vikings have only had 1 1,000 yard receiving season (Sidney Rice). They've had big names there that just couldn't perform (Jennings, Harvin) that just couldn't perform behind Adrian Peterson or most recently Teddy Bridgewater.

I would just want Wallace for his speed which would pose similar headaches as brought for us (both catching and dropping balls).

Boy if we can get Flash Gordon, it would change everything!

I agree we need a veteran to come in and be a key player.  We also need to bring is someone that is going to fit.  IMO we don't need a big lumbering WR, been there, done that.  It didn't work. We have a big in Funchess as a Number 2.

IMO Byrd is on the cusp of having a breakout year.  I think Samuel with a complete offseason and when he heals will definitely be a huge addition to our offense so we need a reliable WR that can run any route asked of him.  If what you say is correct abut Lee than he would be the one I target.

I also remember Richardson having a huge year for J'ville a season or two ago.   Wouldn't mind him.

I really like what I’ve seen from byrd, and also samuel before injury, but these guys have had the injury bug lately and hard to rely on them coming back and not missing a beat. I also think Samuel should be use more often in the role cmc plays majority of the time. I think byrd is the more polished receiver and def should see a snap increase next season. Lee is definitely a guy that would fit right in. Would make it damn near impossible for most teams to stack the box with him around

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
