Why the hate on Wilks?

He isn't as bad as people on here say. He's a very smart guy and he's getting head coach interviews for a reason. I can't blame it all on him when the offense went 3 and out the majority of the time and he had a secondary that gave up big plays more often than not.

I agree that he will learn and get better but the offense did not go three and out most of the time and we did give up more 20 yard plays on defense than anyone in the league. That clearly was his fault given you have to adapt your defense to the players you have and honestly this secondary last year with rookie corners was awful but better than this year. The scheme Wilks put in was too aggressive and predictable. At least when Jim Johnson blitzed it was an all out blitz that got there more times than not. Wilks blitzed 5 guys a lot but it got picked up way too often making us predictable and vulnerable.

The difference between Wilks and McDermott, IMO, was McDermott disguised his blitzes far better than Wilks.  Everytime Wilks lined up, he blitzed.

McDermott would like up and not blitz.  Makes QB audible into a favorable play for the defense.

Wilks just needs to learn this.  Hopefully, him and Rivera do a lot of film review.

Our defense ranked last the final 7 weeks of the season, and the secondary continued to get shredded. We have a top defense that feast on subpar qbs, that’s the harsh reality

Is this a true fact? Like... last as in 32nd? Were we really that bad? We went 5-2 in that span

TBH next year is a make or break year for Bradberry and Worley. Two guys surely hand picked by Wilks to be the DB future. I agree we need some more athletes in the back end (guys better than Adams and Coleman) but we’re not the only team in the league with old guys...

This. We started off so strong too. This is what worries me with Wilks. It was like other teams figured us out and Wilks couldn’t recover. I like him and if he stays I hope he can figure it out (also need to draft or sign some DBs)

    • Anybody got a clue what this is supposed to mean? 🤔
    • I figured as much. Hopefully he's just resting up and will be ready for round 3 (if we make it that far.)  Sucks to see. Hes been our best defender (besides Slavin) in the playoffs so far.
    • I've never bought into the idea. There's just too much at stake, even for front office people. Jobs are lost, trust is lessened, lives are altered, reputations are damaged and more. Throw in that the average front office person isn't as young as the average player. They may not have ten years ahead of them to salvage their careers. Any given year could be their last. The only person not guaranteed to suffer some direct form of consequence from losing is the owner, and even there you still have problems (fan reaction, team reputation, revenue, etc). You've also got massive egos in play on that front so it can get personal. Mind you, I do accept that there are "fire sales" in order to build for the future, but even those have consequences. They don't exactly guarantee success either. Poorly run teams often just wind up in the same circumstance a few years down the road. Sorry gus, but my tinfoil hat just hasn't fit me for quite a while.
