Austin basically does what CMC or Samuel already are here to do.  

We need vertical threatening WRs.  Austin is a screen, short route, end around WR who got drastically overpaid a couple years ago.

it's weird, he says something with so much confidence but is completely wrong, then wittingly hashtags it. maybe if one of them had an ACL but I dont think either had that, at least Samuel didn't I dont recall ever hearing what Byrd's injury was.

Now think back what was Ted Ginn when he first come here a former first round pick with speed to burn. Dont trade for him but a reasonable contract sign him up let him go down field with Cams cannon and see what happens

No thank you. Wasn't a fan when he came out, and less of a fan now. If we were still stacked with towering receivers like KB/Funch and no slot guys, then maybe...but even then... meh.

Dude is all speed and not a lot of production. Let someone else figure him out.

Sign him? Maybe, maybe but Austin has been largely not part of their offense for awhile. We'd have to pray it's Ted Ginn 2.0 all over again

Although we have Samuel on the roster, we cannot look past his durability issues in season one. His injury was serious and I'm not sure how long it will take him to get ready for 2018.

The one thing that Austin does offer over Samuel - although it's a small sample size - is durability. Austin has missed a total of five games since 2013, and three of those came in his rookie year.

Sometimes the best ability is durability.

Then we can cut Shepard and give that money to Austin.  Shepard has shown as much if not less from the WR position as Austin in their career.  But atleast Austin has shown to be a elite return man which Shepard is Not.  Klay looked alright returning kicks (mainly looked good to us due to how bad weve been at that position the last few seasons).

 

Plus id like to see what this staff can do with a guy like Austin.  Stefon Diggs was identical to Austin coming out and our new OC helped turn him into a pretty damn good WR

Statistically speaking, Clay is a better punt return man than Austin.  Higher average yards per attempt,  more td's per attempt, and most importantly, fewer fumbles.    Austin has 17 fumbles in 150 or so career attempts, including four this year in only 12 attempts.  Clay has 3 in 42 attempts, which is not good, but still a little better than Austin.  And four fumbles in 12 attempts for this year is horrid, and probably one very significant reason he is available.
