People really want Boston back? He was in a great situation with one of the best cover corners in Hayward and Bosa/Ingram providing pressure. He was likely allowed a bit more freelancing. Do you guys really think he’s that much better than he was in 2016? He seems like an overpay who would perform just a bit better than before and certainly not be worth th money.

I think the 2016 season for him is over blown, had way more too so with sorry cb play, Boston is familar with the system and great depth at the very least. Def better than coleman

Damn, I really wanted Reid or Parker. Searcy was a solid player 3-4 years ago after his time in BUF. We all know we are going safety in the first two rounds, but would've preferred Reid or Parker at the opposite spot.

Oh well.....can't win em all.

Poor Eric Reid....Searcy gets a deal before him??

The free agent safety class that was left was not good and we needed a veteran with starting experience who was relatively cheap and can hold down the fort until our rookie draft pick is ready to start. Searcy checks all the boxes. He isn't the long term solution. Most of our new contracts are 2 or 3 deals. None of them are likely long term solutions. We are in win now mode.

Y’all wanted to pay JNo top CB money until he was 33 and now 29 is too old? This board is something else

That’s what I’m saying.

you have this group here that will whine no matter what just to whine.

Too old too much too young too loud too quiet whatever.

In just one free agency Hurney has taken our 2nd biggest weakness, receiver and made it a strength, and took our biggest weakness by far, secondary and moved it to the land of the living at least,... probably at least average.

    • FA may or may not be the best option each time. You know as well as I do that the LT is the highest paid position on offense behind QB and WR. If you have cap concerns, it would be better to draft a quality LT and hold him for 3-4 years before you have to sign him to a long term (and expensive 2nd contract). I wouldn't want to acquire a run stuffing DT in FA if I could get a younger one much cheaper in the draft.  Let's say no good Safties are on the market when prior to drafting. Once again you'd go to the draft. FA is a good way to feel out the roster prior to the draft, but it's possible to REACH there too. FO's usually end up over playing guys (at least at certain positions) who have already peaked. Besides, you always have to consider that the team that let them go didn't think they were worth the price they were asking to retain them. That certainly applies to our defense. We could draft the BPA at any level of our defense and immediately improve our team. A stud on the line beside DB would help the the run and pass defense. Our LB core needs a thumper/impact player at any position. We need another CB to play alongside JC. We have yet to see a Safety on our roster significantly impact a game this year.
    • Maybe Rod will change it up and slot Bussi in net. Why risk the inevitable injury to Freddie this early in the season against a team that will likely win regardless.  Just show up and play to win, that's all I ask.
    • Well, I feel the same way about pharmaceutical, junk/fast food and political ads. They all cause active and KNOWN harm to the populace but we are the penultimate corrupt Western country, so that's just where we are as a society.
