On the record, pick 24

Since we have a lot of people around here that know more than the actual professionals here is your chance to go on the record and prove your wisdom.  Now that we know who was available at our pick who would you have picked.  Might be fun to look back at during the season.

I would have gone with Ridley.

I really like the pick to be honest, but, if this is just for fun, I'll say James Washington. I know no one agrees, but I love his game. Ridley got so much hype, I think it distorted some fans view of him a little. In a vacuum with no fans or pundits influencing you, Washington really stands outs. I also just like seeing a guy who is that stout stretch the field.

Definitely like Ridley more than Moore, had Moore as my #3 WR, borderline 2nd round talent. I just think we already have a lot of threats like him on the roster, Ridley would have been better, IMO.

For the record, I didn't like the Cmac or Samuel picks last year either, so take that for what its worth. (Wanted Malik Hooker at 8 and just didnt think Samuel made sense after taking Cmac.)

I wanted Ridley and I'm not going to hide that. But I understand that draft analysis is a fuging crap shoot. You talk about professionals, but as soon as Mayfield went #1 overall, their entire boards were shot. They got like 5-6 picks right at most, there are simply too many variables. And first round picks have a bust rate of roughly 50%. That WR the Jags drafted #5 overall a few years back was supposed to be the next big thing. Jake Locker and Blaine Gabbert were better than Cam Newton because they were "pro-ready." John Ross was great because he was just fast.

Draft analysts get paid a lot to do what is basically a guessing game and they are wrong more often than they are right. That goes for armchair analysts as well. Everyone is trying to make educated guesses.

I hope Steve Smith is right. I hope Moore is an amazing WR. I will say finding out Carolina had him high before the combine has made me a bit more okay with the pick. Having a dude with mediocre tape shoot up the boards because of a fantastic combine just makes me nervous as hell. Give me a dude with great tape any day.

Moore did fantastic in Maryland with jack poo throwing the ball to him at QB. I saw him play in person- my family lived close by Annapolis, MD because my dad taught at the Naval Academy. He's a freak athlete.

Will be a very solid piece in our offense of Funch, Greg and CMac. Both him and Funch can be moved around and create mismatches, which I absolutely love.

Very comparable to Diggs, even though I normally hate same school comparisons. Should compliment Funch well.

I also like this because if Samuel is healthy, we can use him a lot like Harvin.

DJ Moore is younger, heavier, stronger, more explosive , more agressive that Ridley is.

Ridley seemed to be the more establish route runner but then again, Ridley is over 2 years older than DJ Moore. In 2 years DJ Moore could be a dominant force and Ridley might be an afterthought on the Falcons with Julio there.

Only time will tell though. I just have a good feeling about Moore, has a very honest, open, humble demeanor in alot of the interviews ive watched with him in it. Looks like a RB from the way hes built.

6 months from now we will have a lot of people on this forum claiming what we should have done, always easier with hindsight.  Kind of surprised we have so many that are scared to select a player at this point in time.

Wasn't looking for a Moore vs Ridley answer, who would you have picked if you were Hurney?

Ridley was the safer pick. Moore has more upside. If you want to win big you gotta take some risks and hope they pan out. The conservative side of me says take the known commodity. But if Moore reaches his potential we got the WR1 in this draft.
