The new helmet rule...

Mr. Scot

It's going to bite everyone.

It's going to cost teams games and there will be huge backlash.  I'm hoping they lay off some once the regular season starts and they just call obvious "calls".  Other wise your right it's going to make football hard to watch. Playing DB and linebacker is going to be really difficult.  By the time you figure out a way to hit someone in a split second, your opponent has blown by you.  I'm not really mad or outraged about what I have seen so far in preseason game 1.  More disappointed that it could really screw teams this season.

think they're going to call it a lot stricter in the preseason to emphasize the rule and then slack off a bit when the games actually count. Well, maybe I should say that I hope. We'll see, but I could definitely see this impacting my enjoyment of the game and ultimately my fandom much like the rampant flopping and "selling" of calls has done for me and basketball. I used to be a HUGE college basketball fan watching as much as I could spare the time for, now I pretty much only watch if UNC is playing and I still find myself bitching constantly about the soccer flopping that's going on all over the court.

I haven't watched the game tonight. What's been going on with this awful rule?

Guys are getting flagged for their foreheads dropping 2 inches.  Dude made a solid hit led with shoulder. Bang 15 yards.  All because his head was slightly down.  Did not touch him with his helmet.

I haven't really watched the game tonight so not sure exactly what y'all are referring to but yeah ever since the dumb rule was announced I've been concerned, despite all their trying to downplay it.

Will be all over sports talk tomorrow so just tune in to your favorite channel or station.

I remember a comment that brought up when the hands to the face rule was brought up. Basically, it was rapid fire calling during the preseason. When the complaints came in, the refs cooled down and acknowledged just how much they should call it and how lenient they can be.

Hopefully this occurs with the new helmet rule. Preseason is gonna suck as refs keep testing the new rule, but hopefully a healthy balance comes.
