McCaffrey doubters

Mr. Scot

I have always thought he was a great all around player and I loved the pick. Admittedly, I have reservations about him getting 25-30 touches a game if many if many are inside runs, but I hope it works out. I think that most of those touches still need to be outside/receptions.

Yes but backs the size of cmc represents about 8 of top ten backs alltime including sanders smith Payton Faulk Dorset Martin gore etc etc Just let him run behind a fb like the others

Just for shits and giggles, how many of those guys played against DTs that averaged 315 lbs? Here's an article on OL size over the years. I'd wager the same progression holds for DTs. Remember the mid-80s? The thing that made "Refrigerator" Perry stand out was the fact that he weighed 300 lbs.

Please don’t compare him to HOFers whose durability was a major strength. All I said is he hasn’t proven it yet. Has he? And no college stats matter. Especially PAC 12. He very well may be capable, and I certainly hope he is.

I wanted him to be our first round draft pick last year and I've been happy with the pick and his development ever since.

Smart kid, great work ethic and an incredible weapon, whether as running the ball, as a receiver or as a returner. The guy had all of the skills and you could tell he had a bit more room on his frame to add some muscle. He flashed some great running potential last season, but honestly no one was going to be able to run with Shula's incredibly predictable offense. And then the kid also made 80 receptions.

He has been great utility for the money and the pick. He looks strong, durable and able for this year and I think he'll break 1,000 on the ground easy and might just lead the league in all-purpose yards.

My only knock on CMC last year was his seeming inability to run through any contact. He looks a lot better in that regard this year. He's never going to be Jerome Bettis, that's just not his game. But last year he hardly ever ran through a tackle and oftentimes he was getting straight up slammed violently WWE style. It was a little scary to watch sometimes. That's not been happening so far this preseason. We'll see how that translates when the games count for real, but his preseason performance this year and late season/playoff performances last year have me thinking that he's going to be a very good if not great player for us.

Said it better than me. Ditto.

We are in the Roids era. Cmc used his lateral moves to avoid big hits. Bigger guys like  stewart and others are bigger targets and will get hurt more. Tiki barber was smaller than cmc and wS durable He played fairly recently as is mccoy

I was in the crowd who did not want to use the pick on him and disagreed with it initially. But as I always do, I immediately get on board and wish for the best.

Many of my concerns last year, bared fairly true the first half of last year. He was not impressive as runner. However he did succeed as well as anyone could have asked for in the passing game last year. Here is his stat lines from 2017:

  • 117 rushes, 435 yards, 3.4 ypc and 2 TD's
  • 113 targets, 80 catches, 651 yards, 5 TD's.

That being said, he really came on much stronger as a runner in the 2nd half of the season, look at the difference here:

First 8 games: 49 attempts for 117 yards, 2.4 YPC and 0 TD'S

Last 8 games: 68 attempts for for 318 yards, 4.7 YPC AND 2 TD's.

Now that we have as many receiving threats and Olsen back from injury, it will be hard for him to sustain the same receiving yards, so this year he needs to continue his progression as a runner.
