League frightened that Richardson may be the first of many

The owners have legal agreements that they're forced to abide by too.

As to the story, it wasn't actually "leaked". It's the observation of a reporter who spent four years basically embedded within the league offices.

That changes things marginally; however, Goodell's minions would have controlled the reporter's access and been very careful regarding what was communicated in his/her presence. The reporter would not have been given carte blanche. Therefore, this does not change my belief that this was intentional and with malice and most likely a warning to Jerry Jones.  (perhaps among other owners).

Clearly, I do not have access to internal agreements. It is a private entity and such disclosures need not be made. I feel safe in believing that no such agreement specifically covered the sort of activities for which Richardson was fined. In fact, I will bet that the NFL league office has entered into numerous settlement agreements that contain nondisclosure clauses. Such agreements are not an admission of guilt. In fact, they may contain clauses to that effect. I find it hard to believe that NFL owners gave so much undefined power the NFL that would include the ability to fine team based solely on suspicion of an activity.

I would love to see Richardson call their bluff. The reality is that we would likely never know if he did. If I had to guess it would be that the fine is not paid and the money is donated to charity for which Richardson would receive a tax deduction.

Regardless, I continue to believe that this is a sign that not all is well between certain owners and the NFL and that this is a shot at the bough of those owners by a person with financial security in pursuit of power whose initials are R.G. If I was an owner this would upset me greatly. I am no fan of Jerry Richardson or Jerry Jones. Yet, something about this stinks and rubs me the wrong way.

I'm just glad we got Tepper when we did. The timing couldn't be better as Cam and Luke are hitting their primes.  We finally have an owner who clearly wants to win and has shown he has what it takes to win by becoming a self-made billionaire.  Sorry to all the women who were on the receiving end of Richardson's disgusting choices, but I couldn't be happier for what we have now and am so much more excited about where we can go under the man they call "The Tepp".

The guy with the bad ticker, no plans to pass the team on to his family and one of the more out-of-the-way markets was made the sacrificial lamb.

He was the patsy that will give the rest of the billionaire boys club a few more quiet years. Oh Richardson was guilty and a total jerk behind the scenes, but he sold out for a couple of billion dollars which probably dries his tears quite nicely when he feels nostalgic. We'd be foolish to think, however, that the old man was the only skeleton in the NFL's owners' closet.

I think if it weren't for SI (and most likely, Jonathan Jones) Richardson would still be here.

I don't think JR was a patsy in the least. He was just dumb enough, arrogant enough, or careless enough to leave a blatantly obvious trail of evidence behind.

Thanks again JR for embarrassing the state of NC with your alleged cretinous and perverted behavior. Your 800 year old wife must have wanted to die. At least he didn't go in front of of the media and start crying again after the info came out.

There is certainly no shortage of men who seek power and money almost entirely because if they succeeded it will give them access to premium otherwise unattainable women. The idea that JR is alone in his allegedly perverted and degenerate behavior is as ridiculous as it sounds. Of course there are other men in the NFL taking advantage of their money and status to pursue women in illegal or socially unacceptable ways. I would be stunned if there weren't. The NFL should be pissing in it's collective jock strap over what's about to happen. The "me too" movement and feminism in general has energized and weaponized a woman's natural and social and legal right to not only publicly shame men who harass/molest/pursue them in one form or another, but to bring legal charges against them if anything close to a crime was committed.

Times have changed. The NFL is in deep trouble. The media is waiting with baited breath for ANY tidbit of information coming from a woman about ANY kind of improper conduct from a man at any place of employment, but especially the NFL. The NFL is a prime target. Does the media actually care about the women who come forward? Of course not. The point is to stir the pot as much as possible in order to make money off the attention generated by the story. Buckle your seat belt because it's nearly a certainty that more women are going to come forward, and the media is going to go batshit vulture crazy and lives are going to be wrecked. 100% going to happen.
