Does Norv trust CAM throwing the ball?

It seems like ole Norv. is still calling plays from Shula’s playbook, and using the frachinse QB as a battering ram. What ever happened to running more pro-style offense and using the QB as QB that can make plays from the pocket first. Do you think he doesn’t trust Cam’s throwing ability? Why did Norv call a read-option play on 2 &17 when most competent offenses would look to pass first?

I don't understand what about our offense isn't a "pro-style" offense.....

RPO is all over the league, poo the giants were running that against all game last week.

Packers ran it against the 49ers, and Patriots ran it against the Chiefs.

 

Its the QB's decision to hand it off, run it, or pass it.

Well throwing 40 times for 275 yards doesn't mean he doesn't trust it, but that 6.9 y/a means he don't trust the deep ball or the oline. Which watching videos of Clarke yesterday, he might not be as sufficient as we think.

Cam came out in the 2nd half when the Panther's and Rivera were in desperate "SAVE ME CAM!" mode (yet again) and completed 17 of his first 20 passes and got Carolina back in the game to the point where we had a chance to win.

I guess his 10 foot tall receivers were on the field for him in the 2nd half, right?

Again, this his who Norv had in San Diego:

- Philip Rivers

- Antonio Gates

- Vincent Jackson

- Malcom Floyd

Now go lookup their run/pass differential during that time. Norv likes to run the ball. The fact that he now has a QB who is one of the better ball carriers in the entire league wasn't going to tamp that preference. He also has a couple pretty good backs in McCaffrey and Anderson.

Truth is, we should be running the ball a lot. This team is built to ground and pound and there's just too much youth and inexperience to go full throttle all game like people like. Even if we did, people should never have expected that from a Norv Turner offense under Ron Rivera. Hell, these two literally coached in San Diego, it's the same conductors playing the same song. Norv trusts Cam just as much as he trusted Rivers, Aikman, or any QB he's ever had.

  And considering that a couple of those rushes were scrambles on called passing plays, it’s almost 3 to 1 called passes over runs. But we need to “open up the offense” and “ don’t trust Cam”.

We also had a low snap count on offense this week because we turned the ball over twice and our defense just could not get off the field in the second half.

Cams on pace for nearly 3800 yards passing, 640 yards rushing and a combined 38 TDS while throwing for 65% completion percentage. 

Thats without taking into account, this offense, or Cam has yet to reach their peak and Cam plays his best football the back half of the year. Cam is in for a big year, statistically speaking.

I posted an article in another thread yesterday that went through systems of each team and did a quick breakdown and play example of each.

most teams run hybrid systems with a lot of college concepts in them right now.

so in a sense,.. there are no pure “pro” systems in that sense anymore.

pro systems themselves are ever evolving and changing.

i think it’s a more correct criticism to ask why CJ Anderson sits the bench, why Samuel isn’t getting more opportunities after his dazzling touchdown, where is the vertical attack, and a host of others?

lots of questions for Norv— and maybe Cam has the yips and we are trying to mask by keeping short and intermediate throws,..

or maybe Norv cut them off for awhile to force Cam to throw short and intermediate for awhile,..

or maybe Norv caught the dumbass disease from Ron,.. it’s very contagious,..
