Donte the best corner ever drafted by the Panthers ?

I would say no right now. Give him a few years. He was responsible for the Bucs last TD. He went rogue that series by releasing his guy on 3rd and 17 and covering someone else, leaving his guy wide open for the first down catch. Then on the TD, he stopped covering his guy and went to go cover the outside WR that was already being covered by Bradberry.

The best rookie for sure, but let's calm down on crowning him the best ever. I always felt that Chris Gamble was criminally underrated. That guy was a borderline top 10 CB for a lot of years in the NFL.

Wouldn't go that far yet either - Gamble had 6 picks and 14 breakups in a time when teams weren't throwing nearly as much, meaning fewer opportunities.

No doubt though that Jackson looks very, very promising thus far.

Yes,

But lets hope he continues beyond just this year.

Remember..........Bene was the top Rookie DB his rookie season and all the do over mocks people published had him in the 1st.  Him and Norman were a STUD duo his second year going into that Atlanta game where he broke his leg.  He never came back to his preinjury self.

But Donte is a Stud and making me eat crow where I said he was just a big raw prospect.

Gamble is the best corner this team has ever had and I don't think it is really a debate. Josh Norman may have taken that spot if we would have retained him but 1 good season doesn't supplant Gamble.

Chris Gamble was criminally underrated.

Edit: Eric Davis was also pretty good in his 5 years here.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
