Darius Slay in awe of CMC

He leads the Carolina Panthers in rushing yards, receptions and touchdowns, and the Detroit Lions know that stopping him Sunday will be key to snapping their three-game losing streak.

Lions cornerback Darius Slay marveled at McCaffrey's abilities Thursday, and at how different he is from other NFL running backs.

"I just never saw a white guy do it like that," Slay said. "He goes ham out there and like he plays on an elite level at the running back. (Most) white running backs (are known for) running folks over, he be out there shaking them and doing all what he needs to do, and catch it in the air. So he’s special. He’s special."

Not sure what CMCs race has to do with anything, but he has a lot of great things to say about CMC.

It's an athlete thing. Even white football players say "look at that white boy!" at guys like CMC. It's unusual. Strong, sure. Intelligent, sure. But never fast and agile, not at that level. Nothing back handed meant, he's just saying what we all know. CMC is not your average white running back.

So basically if he was black he wouldn't have even mentioned it.  Sound pretty freaking racist to me.  TBH I don't see many black RB with this talent.   Kareem Hunt maybe.

This forum is so fickle.  When someone says the same thing about the "Black QB" the whole damn forum erupts into a racist rant.

Can't have it both ways.... If the "Black QB" comments are racist than the "White RB" comments are racist.

He could have given props to CMC without bringing race in it.  CMC is a unique talent. PERIOD.

I see what you’re saying and there is some truth there.

Peoples sensitivities aside, he was being honest and it really was a compliment. Any time a person is “shaking them and doing what he needs to do” , I take In a positive way. :)

It’s Friday.

Oh, I have no doubt it was a compliment.   Anyone that doesn't see him as a danger to a defense will soon learn.

Reminds me of Fred Smoots (Minnesota Vikings 2005) when he downplayed how good Smitty was and said he was going to shut him down.  201 yds 1 TD and 11 for 11 on targets.  He learned...  Smoots was never the same after that game.

    • I am not sure it should be a ‘sell out to go to the SB’ season. And hope they don’t.  At the same time I was thinking you absolutely must find out if you want to pay for Bryce or not. That means putting it on him. No protecting and trying to hide weaknesses with the run game and a super conservative calls.  So I wish they would do it and find out, win or lose, 2026. No more developing. Time to do it. Let’s see once and for all.
    • My biggest fear with Bryce Young is that he will always do just enough to stick around. He shows flashes and then drops a turd so the hopium is always there. Like his career highlight reel if you cut it up to some hype music and did a YouTube video would actually be quite good. His great plays really, really look good. But after that video you look at his yearly averages for completion percentage, yardage, touchdowns, and virtually every other metric and it is meh as fug. Like you know Bryce is gonna be 13/23 for 157 yards a touchdown and probably a pick.  I will 100% give him his flowers for his athleticism and ability to scramble outside the pocket. I haven’t seen the mythical “super processing ability” he was touted for per se, but he has shown flashes of absolutely elite awareness when it comes to scrambling. The little basketball move he does to shake defensive linemen has almost become a signature move. It’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it he stops on a dime and pivots like he is gonna hit a step back jumper and it has gotten him out of a lot of trouble.  I sincerely, truly, as a vocal Bryce HATER, hope that since we are obviously running with him next year the coaching staff actually tailors plays around his strengths. He needs to be in a pure spread IMO. His size is much less of a hindrance when he can play QB in open space. I feel like most of his highlight reel is from scrambles and play action/bootlegs.
