Argue Hurney’s case

I see a lot of people want Rivera gone, and I can’t really argue against it. But why isn’t Hurney getting equal treatment? Yes he had a decent draft but he neglected depth at several positions and made some very questionable moves.

If you want Hurney to stay, explain why he should.

there’s no argument needed, if Rivera goes then he should follow even though he’s done a decent job. Mainly because Rivera should go and we don’t trust hurney with hiring the new coach, at least I don’t. As far as roster building, the guy did the best he could given resources and circumstances. I can only really point to three mistakes made since hurney was rehired, Gano over Butker, Galuden over some of the safety’s still on the board at the time, and not releasing Ryan kalil for some extra cap room.

Lets see

Big $$$ Gano

Addressed Safety need with some scrub who was projected a 5th tops and grabbing him in the 3rd.  Searcy (guess he thought, "another mans trash will be another mans treasure"?)

Poe- despite our own rivals warning us

No backup QB

No RB2

What all did he do positive again?

I think Hurney is closer to the door than Rivera, if for no other reason than he is part of the previous ownership.  It is not at all unusual, and perhaps closer to the norm for new ownership (of any organization) to want people they are familiar with and believe they can rely on it the top positions.  So Hurney’s fate may have been sealed with the ink dried on the sale of the team, but the timing did not permit Tepper to make those types of changes when he took over (unless he was going to be a Jerry Jones, and even Jones has stated he regretted not waiting).

Let’s face it, Hurney is not going to be mentioned with George Young, Bobby Beathard, or Tex Schramm so he doesn’t have that upside to give a new owner a pause.

The case for him is that he did okay in the draft last year.  But it may have been an accident.

Through two gm’s the main problems remain the same, so that tells me ron is the bigger issue. Either that or the rare chance both gms haven’t put Ron in position to win consistently

Getts wasn’t bad. And he took us out of cap hell, that Hurney put us in. Anyone that thinks he was a bad GM is laughable.

The guy was fired after being the worst GM in all of football.

Was brought back in by his buddy who was the owner

Because the owner fired the other GM who he didnt like the week or 2 heading in to training camp.  When you Dont want to be firing a GM.

Stayed with the team that season as the poo came up with Jerry.  Tep wasnt going to come right in a make a mistake like Jerry and fire a GM right before the season.  He was going ti let him play it out and show his worth.  Buuuuut he. Still hasnt shown crap to be retained

    • I think we have some revisionist around it here because of all the drama around Tepper's involvement. If you pull up any scouting report from the time you'll see the same take. WalterFootball's report sums up the media's thoughts on him well: "Young has everything the NFL is looking for in a quarterback except in terms of weight and height." He was the consensus top QB of his draft and the only real question mark they had about him was whether his body could hold up in the NFL. The infamous Steph Curry comparison the Panthers latched onto came from Albert Breer. The excuses I've heard for him are more anecdotal. Bryce Young's development is the only bullet point most NFL fans have on the Panthers right now. That and the coaching turnover. If you're not actually watching our games it's easy to believe this is just a dysfunctional organization that doesn't know how to unleash this talented Heisman winner.  I've seen media and fans alike run with that narrative way more than criticizing Young outright. Whenever we win there's flocks who use it as proof that the Panthers just need to be patient.
    • So maybe 1-3 vs playoff teams, going by standings as of today. I guess that is an improvement.  We are just about improved enough to be in purgatory draft wise. It really isn’t so bad in the 1st unless you really want that top QB or maybe edge guy because there are usually plenty of good players at the top but it hurts you some as get deeper in the draft.
